Former England Cricketer Jonathan Trott Compares Shubman Gill To a Previous Captain After Tense Lord’s Scenes

“Very Much Like A Previous Captain”: Trott Responds to Gill’s Jibe With A Veiled Dig At Kohli
Jonathan Trott has attacked Shubman Gill for his “acting” and negative tone towards Zak Crawley during the Lord’s Test.

Mr. Trott, there were at least six minutes to be played, and your Zak was wasting time after time, and your umpires were also not reacting.  Was this a gentleman’s game played by England? There was ample time to play a minimum of two overs, and Zak showed his great acting skills on the field.

I think Zak Crawley is a great actor with cricketing skills.

Jonathan Trott, a former cricketer for England, has expressed his disapproval of India captain Shubman Gill’s “acting” after the captain made a huge jab at Zak Crawley for his stalling tactics in the last over of Day 3 of the Lord’s Test. Trott also remarked that Gill’s actions were similar to those of a former captain.

The Indians were certain they would bowl two overs before stumps with just six minutes remaining, but Crawley waited more than a minute to take cover when the umpires signalled play.

Then, in his run-up, Crawley twice stopped Jasprit Bumrah, the top pacer. He first complained of movement behind the sight screen because he wasn’t prepared.

Gill used some of the crudest words to ask Crawley to have some courage before confronting Bumrah, which could have escalated their altercation.

Gill charged at the former and they exchanged words as the Indian players gathered around Crawley.

In order to indicate that Crawley should be replaced in the event of an injury, Gill even designed an Impact Player sign. The latter responded this time. Ben Duckett, another opener, joined him. Gill’s aggressive charge against Crawley was deemed excessive by Trott.

There was some gamesmanship, but in my opinion, we don’t know what happened while England was fielding or whether they were dishing it out. Speaking on JioHotstar, Trott stated, “I don’t like Shubman Gill’s acting.”

“I simply believe that you set the tone in your role as captain. “As I’ve previously stated, blaming others and becoming somewhat combative, akin to a former captain, is sort of getting in the way of the opposition,” Trott continued.

And that’s not what it’s about, in my opinion. It sets a negative tone, in my opinion. Additionally, I’m willing to be harsh and competitive on the field. Sometimes you simply have to get over it,” Trott remarked.

Both sides scored 387 runs in their opening innings, leaving England at 2/0 with a two-run lead at stumps.

The match is now very much evenly poised, and nothing to choose from any side.  It will be interesting to see how both teams assess the situation and design their strategy and plan.  If India can bowl out England cheaply today, under 300 runs, then it will be India’s chance to get a lead in the series.  However, if England plays their bazzball style game and scores quickly and piles up the runs on the board and gives India to chase at least 350 odd runs, on the last day, then it will be England’s chance to take the lead in the series.

There is also another possibility of a draw, but I don’t think today’s captain and/or coaches are willing to play for a draw after 5 days of tiring cricket. No one likes or loves the result of a draw. Even fans and the crowd would not like that approach from any side.
