Special Ops 2, produced by Friday Storytellers and developed by Neeraj Pandey, is poised to revolutionise contemporary espionage on JioHotstar.

The stakes are bigger than ever, yet the wait has just gotten a little longer. The second season of Special Ops will now debut exclusively on JioHotstar on July 18. Returning as the shrewd and uncompromising R&AW officer Himmat Singh, Kay Kay Menon guides his elite team into a new sort of war that is waged in the shadows of the digital realm rather than on actual battlefields.

Special Ops 2, set in a perilous geopolitical environment, reflects the heightened security concerns of our time, when conflicts are waged in the digital realm rather than on the battlefield and the enemy is present in every aspect of daily life. Himmat and his team are thrown into a silent battle that has no smoke, no warning, and no obvious wounds, but that has repercussions that go right to the heart of the country as concerted cyberattacks endanger national stability.

With a stellar ensemble cast that includes Prakash Raj, Vinay Pathak, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Karan Tacker, Saiyami Kher, Muzammil Ibrahim, Gautami Kapoor, Parmeet Sethi, and Kali Prasad Mukherjee, among others, the season, which Shivam Nair directs, adds depth and complexity to the Special Ops 2 universe.

“Himmat Singh has never been your typical hero; he doesn’t chase glory, he carries burdens,” says Kay Kay Menon, who plays Himmat Singh. This time, every choice feels more costly, and the battles are more hazardous but quieter. Finding a character that pushes you so much as an actor—not just in terms of performance, but also in terms of spirit—is uncommon. I hope viewers understand the effort and passion we put into this season.
