Sudha Murthy Mundra Sparks Reading and Skill Power
Newz Daddy Educational Updates
Renowned author, philanthropist, and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy visited Adani Public School, Mundra, where she delivered an inspiring motivational address to students and emphasised that education should focus on acquiring knowledge and skills rather than merely chasing marks.
During her visit, she was warmly welcomed by a bagpiper band performance and an honour guard by NCC Navy and Army cadets. APSEZ Executive Director Rakshit Shah and Ami Shah (Director, Adani Public School, Mundra), among others, were present.
Sudha Murthy explored a grand book exhibition on campus, which featured a special stall dedicated to her works. She signed copies of her 50th book, The Magic of the Lost Earrings, and gifted them to the school. Delighted to meet the young students, she spent time interacting with them.
In her keynote address, she shared life lessons through personal anecdotes and advised students to respect their parents and teachers. She stressed, “Education should not be just for marks in exams, but for knowledge and skills.” In an era of smartphone addiction, she urged teenagers to limit screen time and cultivate the habit of reading good books to nurture creativity.
She patiently answered students’ questions, encouraging them to face challenges with courage and patience. She also visited the school’s music room and Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL). The visit left a lasting impact, inspiring students to pursue their dreams with gratitude and determination.
India’s largest commercial port and among the top 10 globally, overwhelmed by its automated container terminals, deep-draft berths, railway connectivity, and digital logistics, she remarked: “It is truly a matter of pride to see this port. India has one of the most advanced and capable ports in the world today. The scale of operations, the technology used, and the speed of cargo handling – every Indian should hold their head high. This port is a living symbol of India’s economic strength.”
The world’s largest renewable energy park (538 sq km, five times the size of Paris). With a planned capacity of 30 GW (enough to power over 50 million homes annually and reduce 58 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions), 2 GW is already grid-connected, and the park will be fully operational by 2030.
She congratulated the Adani Green Energy team and said, “Seeing this park, I feel India’s future is shining here. The ocean of clean energy being created on this desert sand is a significant contribution to India’s sustainable development and the world. Such vision and execution on this scale is truly inspiring.”
Sudha Murthy urged students at Adani Public School, Mundra, to prioritise knowledge and skills over exam marks, limit smartphone use, and read extensively. She warmly praised Adani Group’s Mundra Port and Khawda Renewable Energy Park, calling them symbols of India’s economic strength and bright, sustainable future. Her visit proved highly motivational for students and highlighted Kutch’s emergence as a global infrastructure and green energy hub.
Sudha Murthy is a well-known author and philanthropist. She chairs the Murty Trust and is linked with the Infosys Foundation. She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2024, which adds weight to the public talks she gives. Her books and outreach reach many schools and libraries.
School welcome and protocol, A formal welcome with a band and NCC guard shows the school’s effort to honour guests. Adani Public School, Mundra, is run by the Adani Foundation and serves local families. The school has more than 2,000 students and several programmes for skill learning and labs like the ATL. This explains the warm, formal reception.
Book exhibition and signing, Sudha Murthy signing books is typical of her visits. She writes for children and adults and often donates books to schools. Signed copies help build reading habits among students. Her book count and public popularity are noted by major publishers and her trust pages.
Her message to prefer skills and reading over rote marks echoes her long-term work in education and libraries. She often stresses simple habits, respect, patience, reading and limited screen time — all of which are proven to help learning and creativity at young ages. Her advice about smartphones matches wider concerns about screen time and learning.
Student interaction and ATL visit, Atal Tinkering Labs are government-supported spaces found in many Indian schools. They let children try simple engineering and science projects. Visiting the ATL shows the school’s focus on hands-on learning and 21st-century skills. This matches Sudha Murthy’s usual encouragement of practical learning and curiosity. (See school and ATL programme descriptions.)
Mundra Port is India’s largest private commercial port. It has deep-draft berths and automated container handling. The port is part of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd (APSEZ), which runs many Indian terminals. That background explains Sudha Murthy’s praise for scale, speed and connectivity.
The Khavda (also referred to as Gujarat Hybrid Renewable Energy Park) project is designed for up to 30 GW. Parts of the park were commissioned in stages (for example, Adani Green announced 1 GW operational phases). The park covers a very large land area in Kutch and aims to add large renewable capacity by 2030. The scale of the project makes it a major step for India’s green energy goals.
The port and the energy park bring jobs and supply chains. They also draw public attention and debate. Some international news outlets have reported scrutiny and legal matters linked to big projects in recent years, so large projects do bring both praise and close attention in the press. Readers should note both the local benefits and the wider public discussions.
A visit from a high-profile writer and philanthropist often sparks interest in reading and careers. Simple actions like donating books and talking in classrooms help children see new possibilities. The ATL and music room visits add to that inspiration.
