SVGU Media Fest MedWhizz Turns Campus into a Creative Hub
Newz Daddy Educational Updates
Institute of Journalism & Communication (IJC) celebrated its first Media Fest ‘MedWhizz’ at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Global University (SVGU) campus with over 120 participants from schools, colleges and universities of Ahmedabad on January 6, 2026.
Media fests have become an important learning space for young students who wish to understand journalism, communication and creative arts beyond classrooms. Such events help students practise real-world skills like public speaking, teamwork, quick thinking and visual storytelling. For a university like SVGU, hosting its first media fest also signals its growing focus on communication studies and student-led creative platforms.
Amid the presence of SVGU Provost Dr. (Prof.) Subhash Brahmbhatt, the marquee event was outlined by the electric presence of students bubbling with great enthusiasm and vibrancy through their participation in Media Quiz, Treasure Hunt, Spot Photography and Open Mic.
The presence of senior academic leadership often adds confidence and motivation for students. Provosts usually play a key role in shaping academic culture, and their support for cultural and media events encourages students to explore talents beyond exams. The variety of competitions at MedWhizz reflected the changing nature of media education, where knowledge, creativity and teamwork are equally important.

All the winners and participants walked out smiling and confidently holding their trophies and certificates, making their academic institutions proud of their achievements in the maiden IJC Media Fest.
Recognition through certificates and trophies may seem small, but for students, it often builds self-belief and encourages future participation. Academic institutions value such achievements as they show active student engagement, creative thinking and confidence, which are now seen as essential skills for higher education and careers.
Students from JG University, LJ University, SVG University, Shanti Business School, St. Xavier’s College, HK Arts College, Sahajanand College, Shreyas Foundation, HB Kapadia, Shri Sanjay Gandhi Vidhyapeeth Motera and Geneva Liberal School made their presence felt.
The wide participation from schools and colleges across Ahmedabad highlights the city’s strong academic and cultural ecosystem. Ahmedabad has long been known as an education hub, with institutions promoting co-curricular activities alongside academics. Inter-institutional events also help students interact, share ideas and learn from one another.
They put on excellent performances in an open mic in the presence of Ahmedabad’s famous RJ Hardik, sorted through clues to win the treasure hunt and smartly answered the tricky quiz.
Open mic platforms are often used to nurture confidence, storytelling and expression. Having a popular radio personality like RJ Hardik adds excitement and gives students exposure to professional media voices. Treasure hunts develop problem-solving and teamwork skills, while quizzes sharpen awareness of current affairs, media trends and general knowledge.
However, they best exemplified themselves in capturing the SVGU campus in a spot photography contest, where they not only captured the campus in various hues & colours but also brought it to life with captions putting expert judges (Advt. & Commercial Photographer Aditi Anjaria and ex-AFP Photo-journalist Sam Panthaky) in a fix to figure out the winner.
Spot photography contests help students understand framing, light and storytelling through images. The challenge of adding captions teaches them how visuals and words work together, a key skill in journalism and advertising. The involvement of experienced professionals, such as a commercial photographer and a former international photojournalist, also ensures fair judgment and provides valuable learning exposure for participants.
The event not only marked the beginning of Media Fest at SVGU on a vibrant note but also reinforced the message that creativity knows no boundary, and the participating young minds proved it with their winnings in various segments of the contest.
Media education today focuses on breaking barriers between disciplines. Creativity is no longer limited to art students alone. Events like MedWhizz demonstrate how students from diverse backgrounds can express ideas, ask questions, and present stories in unique ways, reflecting the evolving media landscape.
The enthusiastic participation and heartfelt presentations by students were widely appreciated by the judges, guests, dignitaries and audience alike.
Appreciation from peers and experts plays an important role in encouraging young talent. Positive feedback helps students improve their skills and prepares them for future platforms, whether in journalism, digital media, marketing or creative industries.
All the winners received their trophies and certificates from the respective judges and provost.
Such ceremonial moments create lasting memories for students. Receiving awards from senior academicians and industry experts often inspires students to aim higher and remain engaged in creative pursuits.
SVGU continues to uphold its commitment to holistic education by nurturing cultural awareness, national unity, and creative expression alongside academic excellence.
Modern universities increasingly focus on holistic development. Along with academic learning, cultural and media activities help students become responsible citizens, confident communicators and creative thinkers, which aligns with national education goals.
