To bring classroom learning to life, Aarihant Homoeopathic Medical College & Research Institute, a proud part of Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University, recently organized a special visit for its second-year BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) students. The destination was none other than BJ Medical College, located at the Civil Medicity Campus in Asarwa, Ahmedabad—one of the leading medical institutions in the region.
The purpose of this visit was to give the students hands-on exposure to medico-legal autopsy procedures and help them understand the critical field of forensic medicine. A total of 42 students took part in this unique learning experience.
The day began with a warm welcome at BJ Medical College, where the students were greeted by the forensic team at the hospital. They received a detailed orientation about the autopsy process—an essential part of forensic medicine. The team explained the steps involved, the legal requirements, and the importance of documentation in medico-legal cases.
Soon after, the students were escorted to the autopsy room, where they witnessed a live autopsy demonstration. For many, it was their first encounter with such a real-world medical procedure. The demonstration covered the external and internal examinations of the thoracic, abdominal, and cranial cavities. Each step was explained with clarity, highlighting not only the technical aspects but also the legal significance of each observation.
One of the students shared, “We study about this in our textbooks, but seeing it happen in real life is completely different. It helps us understand the procedure so much better.”
The learning did not stop with just the demonstration. The forensic team encouraged the students to ask questions and clear their doubts. An interactive session followed, during which students raised queries about how to identify different types of injuries, determine causes of death, and the role of proper documentation in forensic cases.
The session was not only educational but also eye-opening for many of the students. It brought theory to life, allowing them to connect their classroom learning with practical medical procedures.
The entire visit was smoothly coordinated under the guidance of experienced faculty members from Aarihant Homoeopathic Medical College & Research Institute:
-
Dr. Shashank Parashar, HOD of the FMT Department, supervised the students during the visit.
-
Dr. Kavish Pandey, Associate Professor of the Anatomy Department, explained the anatomical aspects of the autopsy.
-
Dr. Priyanka Chauhan, Assistant Professor of the Physiology Department, helped students understand the physiological implications of forensic medicine.
Their support and mentorship ensured that the students could fully grasp the intricate details of the autopsy process.
This visit to BJ Medical College was more than just an outing—it was an immersive learning experience. Students left with a deeper understanding of the technical and legal aspects of autopsy, which are crucial for forensic practice in India.
The practical exposure to forensic medicine also emphasized the importance of ethics and legal awareness in medical practice. With such hands-on learning, Swarrnim Startup & Innovation University continues to show its commitment to preparing students for real-world medical challenges.
