T20 World cup 2022: The net run rate will decide the semifinalist in Group 1

T20 World Cup 2022

The net run rate will play a major role

T20 World Cup 2022 Australia

The rain is spoiling the T20 World cup Party in Australia.  A good number of matches have already washed out without a ball being bowled.

The ICC and Australian Cricket Board should have thought about this situation before scheduling this big tournament like T20 World Cup.

It is a lot of disappointment for fans, players, teams, sponsors, etc.

No team or player likes to win through the DWL system.  The win of Ireland over England would have been huge if they have won by playing on the field.  However, this win has not got any excitement from the fans and players of Ireland.

We all are watching the dance and joy on the face of Zimbabwean players after winning over Pakistan the day before.

Now the semifinalist will be very much dependent on Net Run Rate.  One team will depend on the win and loss of the other team and how they win or lose.

Two matches are yet to go with most of the teams in group 1, those two games must be won by the team to qualify for Semi Final.

Current standings of all teams in Group 1

The rain-affected match between England and Australia in Melbourne has left both teams with three points, and all six teams in Group 1 still have a chance to advance.

Looking to the current scenario, all six teams have a chance to qualify for the semi-final.  If Ireland wins both their remaining matches then they also have a good chance to move forward; however, they have tough matches against New Zealand and Australia.

The situation of the net run rate

England Net Run Rate: +0.239

As far as Net Run Rate is concerned, England is having very good run rate in Group 1.

Afghanistan Net Run Rate: -0.620

Afghanistan has also a chance to qualify but their chances are very low compared to other teams as their total points are less as they have not registered any wins and have only 2 points on the board after 2 matches.

Ireland Net Run Rate: -1.169

Ireland will have a difficult time making it to the semifinals with games against Australia and New Zealand still to come. They will also need a big win against these two teams which is less likely, so their chance of qualification is also low.

Australia Net Run Rate: –1.555

The first match for the defending champion was a huge defeat by the hands of their neighbour, New Zealand which has damaged Australia’s Net Run Rate quite a bit and it is still in minus.  They have to win with big margins in their remaining matches.

New Zealand Net Run Rate:  +4.450

New Zealand is the only team currently having a very good Net run rate as they have got a huge win over Australia. They are currently in the Top position with 3 points in Group 1.  They just need to have 2 wins out of three matches and they should be through to the Semi-Finals.

Sri Lanka Net Run Rate: +0.450

Sri Lana has one comparatively easy match against Afghanistan and two tough matches against England and New Zealand.  However, this T20 world cup is a world cup of upsets. You never know if Sri Lanka can win both these touch matches and lose the easy one.

All teams will be keeping a close eye on each team’s results and their Net Run Rate as everyone has a chance, low or high to qualify.

There are four major contenders for the spot and only two can go and grab it.  So the competition will be high and we will be witnessing great matches coming ahead.

All eyes will be on the sky, I am not talking about “Surya Kumar Yadav”, in a hope that no rain now to spoil the game.

All the matches from now onwards are going to be nail-biting, as the teams would want to win and win with big margins because the Net Run Rate will be playing a major role in deciding the team’s fate for Semi-finals.
