Celebrating Teacher’s Day, Cairn Oil & Gas, part of the Vedanta Group, organised a special event to honor and felicitate teachers who have dedicated their lives to the cause of good education, from schools across Agchamua, Maibelia and Paschamua. The initiative aimed to recognise the vital role of teachers in shaping young minds and contributing to the educational and social development of the region.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on September 5 in India to honor Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the country’s second President and a great teacher. Across India, schools and colleges organise events to appreciate teachers. Cairn Oil & Gas joining this celebration reflects how companies are also taking steps to encourage social development and not just focus on business. In rural regions like Agchamua and Maibelia, such recognition becomes even more important because teachers often work with limited resources but give their best to educate children.

Guided by the belief that “A teacher is not the one who gives you all the answers, but the one who inspires you to find them yourself,” the event celebrated the passion, commitment, and tireless efforts of the teachers who continue to transform the lives of children through education.

Many global education studies show that children who are encouraged to ask questions and think independently become more confident and creative adults. This belief is also supported by UNESCO and UNICEF, which stress that quality education is not just about memorising but about inspiring children. Cairn’s recognition of this philosophy shows that it understands the deeper role of teachers in society.

Teachers were presented with tokens of appreciation and certificates acknowledging their service to the community. The ceremony was attended by students, school administrators, and representatives from Cairn.

Small gestures of appreciation can leave a big impact. Research shows that when teachers are respected and valued, they stay motivated and perform even better. In rural India, teachers face many challenges, such as lack of classrooms, a shortage of books, and sometimes even poor infrastructure. Recognition from organisations like Cairn boosts their morale and gives them confidence that their work is seen and celebrated.

Mantu Gogoi, Principal of Madhya Nakachari High School, said, “It is humbling to be getting this recognition. While we are fortunate to have the nurturers of tomorrow, often our contributions go unnoticed. Such appreciation motivates us more. Kharod Gogoi, Assistant teacher, added, “This indeed is a booster dose to our confidence and bolsters our spirit to continue shaping young minds.”

In many rural schools of Assam, teachers often multitask—teaching different classes, handling administration, and even motivating parents to send their children to school. Stories like those of Mantu Gogoi and Kharod Gogoi remind us that teachers are not just instructors but true community leaders. When they receive recognition, it sets an example for others in society to respect and support education.

Adding joy and vibrancy to the celebrations, students from participating schools showcased their creativity and love for their teachers through special performances. They also recorded thank-you videos, expressing their gratitude and admiration for the positive impact their teachers have had on their lives.

Studies show that when students express gratitude, it improves their emotional well-being and builds stronger teacher-student bonds. In India, cultural traditions like Guru-Shishya Parampara have always emphasised respect for teachers. These thank-you videos are a modern extension of that timeless bond. Performances by students are not just entertainment but a way of building memories and celebrating the teaching profession.

Teachers are the backbone of any society. By empowering young minds, they empower communities. Cairn is proud to recognise its efforts and reaffirm its commitment to supporting education and development in the regions where it operates.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities like these are more than symbolic. According to the Companies Act, large companies in India must spend 2% of their profits on CSR. Education is one of the most common and impactful areas where this money is invested. Cairn Oil & Gas has earlier also worked in the fields of skill development, women’s empowerment, and health in different parts of the country. By focusing on education, they are ensuring long-term community growth because every child taught today will contribute to society tomorrow.
