The Ahmedabad Millet Festival: A Global Win For Our Farmers
The Millet is The Ultimate Choice For Every Passionate Food Lover. Visit The Ahmedabad Millet Festival 2026
The Gujarat State BJP Media Department has shared exciting news regarding the health and future of our farmers. With the special presence of State BJP President Shri Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma, the ‘Millet Festival and Natural Farmer Market-2026’ officially opened at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad. This event marks a major step in bringing traditional Indian food back to the modern dinner table.

During the opening ceremony, Shri Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma congratulated citizens for joining this movement. He explained that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inspired the entire world to celebrate the importance of millets. Rather than keeping this a local secret, the Prime Minister shared these “super-grains” with world leaders at the G-20 summit. By serving millet-based dishes to global guests, India has given these ancient grains a new, prestigious identity.
Research from international food journals shows that this global push has worked. Since the International Year of Millets, global demand for these hardy crops has risen. Experts note that millets are “smart foods” because they are good for the planet, good for the farmer, and good for the consumer. In Gujarat, various international programmes now make sure millets are always on the menu to encourage people to eat them more often.
Health Benefits of Millets
Shri Vishwakarma highlighted that the festival features an excellent display of millet dishes and their many health benefits. Last year, over 500,000 people visited the exhibition to learn how to cook with these grains. Leaders like PM Narendra Modi, Union Co-operation Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel are making natural farming a top priority. Governor Shri Acharya Devvrat is also working hard to teach people about the dangers of using too many chemicals in our food.
Medical studies in health magazines support these efforts. Scientists have found that millets are “powerhouses” of nutrition. They contain more fibre and minerals than highly processed rice or wheat. Because they have a “low glycaemic index,” they do not cause blood sugar to spike, making them a perfect natural remedy for managing diabetes and heart health.
The President noted that younger people might not recognise grains like pearl millet (bajra), sorghum (jowar), finger millet (ragi), foxtail millet (kangni), or kodo millet. In a world full of “ready-made” fast food and chemical-heavy products, PM Modi has started a mission to improve what we eat. These grains are easy to digest and act as a “silver bullet” against obesity and high cholesterol.
Reflecting on a recent trip to tribal areas, Shri Vishwakarma shared that tribal communities remain very fit and strong because they eat maize, bajra, and jowar every day. If city dwellers adopt these habits, their health will improve significantly. For example:
- Bajra (Pearl Millet): Provides essential warmth and energy during the winter months.
- Jowar (Sorghum): Is excellent for those looking to manage their weight naturally.
- Ragi (Finger Millet): Is packed with calcium, which is vital for building strong bones in children and the elderly.
Articles in agricultural journals point out that millets are incredibly tough. They can grow in poor soil with very little water, which makes them a reliable food source as the climate changes. By celebrating these grains every year, the government aims to build a stronger, cancer-free generation by moving away from toxic, chemical-laden diets.
Support for Farmers and Economic Growth
The government is also focused on the financial success of our farmers. Under the guidance of PM Modi and Amit Shah, the state is helping natural farmers find buyers for their goods. Soon, farmers’ lands will be officially certified as “natural,” and their organic products will be sold across the world under the famous Amul brand.
Through the ‘National Co-operative Export Limited’ and local co-operative societies, farmers are finally receiving fair prices. This system removes the “middlemen,” ensuring that more money goes directly into the pockets of the hard-working men and women who grow our food. Experts in economic journals suggest that this “farm-to-table” model is the best way to double a farmer’s income while keeping the environment clean.
In his closing remarks, Shri Vishwakarma expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Agriculture Minister Jitubhai Vaghani, the state will flourish. He believes that if every person includes just one millet dish in their daily routine, the need for doctors and hospitals will decrease.
The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Jitubhai Vaghani, State Minister Rameshbhai Katara, and many other local leaders and citizens, all united in the goal of a healthier India.
