Newz Daddy Educational Updates

Bullet-Point Synopsis:

  • DPS East and KFS Ghatlodia students celebrated International Mother Language Day on February 21.
  • Students wore traditional outfits and held placards displaying various languages of India.
  • The event emphasized the importance of preserving mother tongues while fostering unity and cultural pride.
  • The celebration highlighted India’s linguistic diversity and how languages connect people to history, heritage, and values.
  • International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity.
  • The day was proclaimed by UNESCO on November 17, 1999, and later recognized by the UN in 2002.

On February 21, students gathered at DPS East and KFS Ghatlodia to commemorate International Mother Language Day, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere. Students enthusiastically displayed India’s linguistic variety while wearing vibrant traditional clothing, highlighting the value of mother tongues in maintaining identity and culture.

The occasion served as a poignant reminder that language is more than just a means of communication; it also conveys history, feelings, and ingrained customs. It was not only about honouring languages. Students gained knowledge of India’s diverse cultural heritage and the role that languages play in bridging generations by uniting to celebrate various mother tongues.

With signs showcasing the several regional languages spoken throughout the nation, students from diverse backgrounds enthusiastically participated. India’s unity in variety was demonstrated by the colourful display of linguistic diversity, which reaffirmed the notion that despite our differences in language, we have similar customs and beliefs.

During interactive workshops, storytelling, and cultural performances, educators and students discussed the importance of language in forming our identities, feelings, and thoughts. In order to let people appreciate the beauty of other languages, some students performed poems, folktales, and proverbs in their mother tongues.

“I felt proud to speak my mother tongue in front of my friends,” said a DPS East student, expressing their delight. I was reminded of my heritage and the uniqueness of my language.

To encourage linguistic and cultural diversity, February 21 is designated as International Mother Language Day each year. The United Nations General Assembly acknowledged it in 2002 after UNESCO first declared it on November 17, 1999.

The day is particularly meaningful because it serves as a reminder of the value of protecting endangered languages. Cultural heritage is gradually disappearing as a result of the replacement of numerous regional languages by dominant ones brought about by globalisation and technological progress.

According to the UN, one language vanishes every two weeks, erasing a whole realm of history, customs, and knowledge. These kinds of incidents act as a reminder to preserve and advance mother tongues.

The festival was not only an enjoyable occasion for the young pupils at DPS East and KFS Ghatlodia, but it also opened their eyes. Many pupils came to understand that speaking in their native tongue is a source of pride rather than being outdated.

Students’ embrace of their linguistic background was also greatly aided by their parents and instructors. “When children are encouraged to speak in their mother tongue, they develop a deeper connection with their culture and learn to appreciate diversity,” said a teacher at KFS Ghatlodia.

DPS East and KFS Ghatlodia’s International Mother Language Day events were a lovely homage to India’s multilingual identity. They acted as a reminder that languages are about more than simply words; they are also about shared memories, feelings, and customs.

Mother languages must be passed on to the next generation in a world that is changing quickly in order to preserve cultural legacy and prevent language loss.

Our mother tongue is a treasure that we must value, and the pupils took this vital message with them as they cheerfully returned home.
