Tourism Malaysia is making significant strides in enticing Indian tourists through a comprehensive sales mission series set to kick off in 2024. The effort involves active participation in major tourism expos like the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) in Mumbai and the upcoming South Asia Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) in New Delhi.

Tourism Malaysia recently showcased its offerings at the Outbound Travel Mart in Mumbai, held from February 8th to 10th, 2024. This event served as a platform to connect with Indian travellers and lay the groundwork for the upcoming initiatives.

In addition to OTM, Tourism Malaysia organized a captivating Food and Culture promotional event in Mumbai from February 5th to 11th. This event not only highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of Malaysia but also paved the way for a more immersive engagement with the Indian audience.

Buoyed by the success of the Mumbai events, Tourism Malaysia is embarking on an extensive sales mission across five major Indian cities. Starting in Bangalore and traversing through Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, and concluding in New Delhi, this mission spans from February 12th to 22nd.

The mission is led by Mr. Razaidi Abdul Rahim – Director, Tourism Malaysia, Chennai, Ms. Noriah Jaafar – Director, of Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai and Mr. Akmal Aziz – Deputy Director, Tourism Malaysia, New Delhi, together with 45 organisations, comprised of two (2) state tourism bodies, three (3) airlines, 14 hotel and resort operators, 19 travel agents, six (6) product owners, and the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), also an agency under Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

Each leg of the sales mission will feature a diverse array of activities. From business meetings and networking sessions to cultural showcases and destination presentations, Tourism Malaysia aims to create a comprehensive and engaging experience for Indian travel industry professionals.

Fostering Connections and Opportunities

This B2B event is not just about transactions; it’s a platform for Malaysian and Indian counterparts to strengthen networks and cultivate business opportunities. Beyond business matching sessions, seminars and product presentations will focus on various tourism markets, including meetings & incentives groups (MICE), weddings, golfing, and family activities.

With expectations to draw over 500 travel agents and tour operators from the participating cities, the sales mission aims to create a robust platform for collaboration and business development.

The interactive sessions will delve into the unique selling points of Malaysia for each segment, providing Indian travel professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the diverse offerings and potential collaborations.

India-Malaysia Ties

India holds significant importance as Malaysia’s fifth-largest source of tourists. The cultural ties and economic connections between the two nations make India a priority market for Malaysia. Between January and November 2023, Malaysia welcomed 17.8 million tourists, with 587,703 arrivals from India.

The strong ties between India and Malaysia extend beyond tourism. The historical and cultural connections form a solid foundation, making it a mutually beneficial relationship that extends into economic and diplomatic spheres.

Enhanced air accessibility plays a crucial role, with 181 flights offering 33,851 seats weekly between India and Malaysia. Airlines such as Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, Air Asia, and IndiGo facilitate seamless travel between the two nations.

Tourism Malaysia recognizes the importance of convenient travel options. The increased frequency of flights ensures that Indian travellers have ample choices, making Malaysia an easily accessible and desirable destination.

Visa-Free Entry – A Tempting Offer

An enticing aspect for Indian travellers is the recently lifted entry visa requirement for Malaysia. Citizens of India can now enjoy visa-free entry for stays of up to 30 days, effective from December 1st, 2023, until December 31st, 2024. This significant development was announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim.

The visa-free entry is a game-changer, removing barriers for Indian tourists and encouraging them to explore Malaysia for extended periods. This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to fostering tourism and strengthening bilateral ties.

Beyond immediate gains, this sales mission acts as a catalyst for promoting Visit Malaysia 2026. The program aims to boost Malaysia’s tourism sector through extensive publicity coverage throughout the mission, capturing the attention of both Indian and global audiences.

Visit Malaysia 2026 is not merely a promotional campaign; it’s a strategic vision that aligns with Malaysia’s long-term goals for tourism development. The program will focus on sustainable tourism practices, community engagement, and showcasing Malaysia’s unique attractions.
