Veterans Welfare Rally Bhuj brings services, care and a chance to fix pension issues
Upholding the ethos and time-honoured traditions of the Indian Army, a large-scale Veterans Outreach Rally was organised on 18 January 2026 by Bald Eagle Brigade at Bhuj Military Station. The rally aimed to reach out to Veterans, Veer Naris, Widows and their families from the entire Kutch district, providing a dedicated platform to address pension and documentation-related issues, medical concerns, and to spread awareness on a host of contemporary issues as well as entitlements and benefits under various schemes of the Defence Forces, the Central and State Governments.
Such outreach rallies have become an important bridge between the Army and its retired personnel, especially in remote regions like Kutch. Many veterans and their families face difficulties in accessing offices located far away, which can delay pensions or medical claims. By bringing all services under one roof, the Army ensures that genuine problems are heard directly and resolved faster. These rallies also help families understand new rules, digital systems, and benefits that may have changed over time, which is crucial for elderly veterans.Adopting a holistic and people-centric approach, the rally witnessed participation of over 1,000 Veterans, Widows, Veer Naris and Next of Kin from Bhuj and far-flung talukas of Kutch district. As a mark of respect and care, beneficiaries were felicitated with medical aids and essential utility items. Officials from the Rajya Sainik Board, District Legal Services Authority, Common Service Centres, Banks, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), SPARSH, NAMAN Kendra, Army Recruiting Office and Pension Establishments established dedicated facilitation counters to provide on-the-spot assistance and grievance redressal.
The strong turnout showed the trust veterans place in such initiatives. For many families, travel from distant villages is not easy due to age, health, or cost. Having legal, banking, pension, and health services together saves time and effort. Medical aids such as walking sticks, hearing devices, and basic health equipment can greatly improve daily life for elderly veterans and widows. On-the-spot grievance handling reduces long follow-ups and gives families confidence that their concerns are taken seriously.To enhance awareness, officials delivered informative talks on cyber crimes and online frauds, ECHS policies, and the latest welfare schemes offered by various agencies.
Awareness sessions are especially important today as many pension and banking services are now online. Elderly veterans are often targeted by cyber fraud through phone calls or fake messages. Simple guidance on safe digital practices can protect their savings. Updates on ECHS and welfare schemes help families make full use of the medical and financial support that they may otherwise miss due to a lack of information.A Multi-Speciality Medical Camp, organised by Field Hospital and MH, Bhuj, provided expert consultation by Medical Specialists, Ophthalmologists, Dental Specialists and Physicians. The camp was supported by laboratory and eye-care facilities, ensuring comprehensive healthcare support to the beneficiaries.
Health care remains one of the biggest concerns for veterans and widows. Many suffer from age-related illnesses, vision problems, and dental issues. Access to specialist doctors in one place allows early diagnosis and timely advice. Basic tests and eye care facilities help identify serious conditions before they worsen. Such camps reduce dependence on distant hospitals and long waiting periods.Children of veterans who have excelled in various fields were also felicitated during the event, recognising their achievements and encouraging continued excellence.
