Virat Kohli, India’s captain, has announced that he will be eligible for selection in the one-day international series against South Africa. Before leaving for the South Africa tour, the Indian Test skipper gave a virtual press conference in Mumbai.

After an alleged split with India’s newly designated ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, there were allegations that Virat Kohli requested to miss the ODI series. He shot down the rumors by confirming his participation in the ODI series against South Africa. Kohli also stated in the press conference that, while he will miss Rohit Sharma’s presence in the team, “it will not be a crucial element” in the Test series.

“His (Rohit Sharma’s) qualities will be much missed. In England, he has demonstrated his abilities. We shall miss his abilities as a result of his experience. “Having said that, it’s an opportunity for Mayank and KL Rahul to cement their positions,” Virat Kohli remarked at the news conference.

“While I would miss Rohit’s presence in the team, I don’t believe his absence will be a game-changer in this series,” Kohli continued.

“Nothing can distract me from being inspired to play for India,” Kohli remarked in response to recent developments about the ODI captaincy. A lot of what happened outside wasn’t ideal, but there’s only so much an individual can do.

Virat Kohli remarked, “I am highly focused, mentally prepared, and excited to help Team India win.”

Kohli also stated that as ODI captain, he will continue to support Rohit Sharma. “Along with Rahul Bhai, Rohit is a very capable captain for India and the IPL.” Both of them will receive my full support. Kohli stated, “I will continue to be the man that drives the team ahead.”

“I’m tired of reiterating that there is no schism between myself and Rohit,” Virat Kohli said.
