Gujarat Aims High: 14610 Gram Panchayats Covered By Jan Suraksha Saturation Campaign.
Imagine a future where every family in India feels safe and secure, knowing they have a helping hand when life throws challenges their way. That’s the big dream behind the ‘Jan Suraksha Saturation Campaign,’ a special effort by the Indian government to bring important financial and social security benefits to everyone, especially those in our villages.
A special meeting was held to share exciting news about this campaign. Shri Ashwini Kumar, who is the General Manager of Bank of Baroda and also leads the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) in Gujarat, spoke to reporters. He told everyone how this three-month campaign, which started on July 1, 2025, and will run until September 30, 2025, is working to help people all across Gujarat.
“We want to make sure no one is left behind,” Mr. Kumar shared, his voice full of determination. He explained that this big drive, organised by SLBC Gujarat with Bank of Baroda leading the way, is a team effort. All the public and private banks, co-operative banks, and rural banks in Gujarat are working together. Their goal is to reach all 14,610 village councils (Gram Panchayats) in the 33 districts of Gujarat.
The campaign kicked off in a special way on July 1st. The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, started it online from Pundhara Village in Gandhinagar. The Finance Minister of Gujarat, Shri Kanubhai Desai, and many important leaders, including all 33 District Collectors, joined in both in person and online. It was a clear sign of how important this effort is to the state.
So, what exactly is this campaign doing? Think of it as a friendly outreach program. In each village council area, bank managers from nearby branches are setting up special camps. At these camps, they talk to local people, explaining how they can join important social security plans. These plans are designed to give a safety net, like a helping hand, in times of need.
For example, there’s the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), which is a very affordable accident insurance. For just 20 rupees a year, it offers 2 lakh rupees (that’s 200,000 rupees) if something unexpected happens. Then there’s the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), a life insurance plan. For 436 rupees a year, it also offers 2 lakh rupees to your family if you pass away. These are truly small amounts for such big protection!
But the campaign is about more than just these two plans. It’s about making sure everyone has a basic bank account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). It also helps people sign up for the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), which is a pension plan that helps you save for your golden years.
The campaign also helps people update their “Know Your Customer” (KYC) details for their bank accounts and makes sure dormant (unused for a long time) PMJDY accounts are active again. They also help people add important “nominee” details to their bank accounts, which means deciding who gets the money if something happens to them.
Beyond that, the campaign is teaching people important lessons about money. They are giving talks on how to avoid falling for online tricks and scams, how to get back unclaimed money that might be sitting in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and how the Banking Ombudsman can help if you have a problem with your bank. These are all vital steps to protect people’s hard-earned money and make them smarter about finances.
Mr. Kumar shared some impressive numbers, too. As of June 30, 2025, many people are already benefiting. Almost 29 lakh (2.9 million) people have joined the Atal Pension Yojana. A huge 92 lakh (9.2 million) people are part of the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and over 55,000 claims have already been paid out to families in need. For the PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, 194 lakh (19.4 million) people are covered, and nearly 5,000 claims have been settled. And importantly, 194 lakh (19.4 million) PM Jan Dhan Yojana accounts have been opened, giving more people access to banking.
Mr. Kumar stressed that the media has a very important role to play. He asked reporters to help share this vital information far and wide, so that everyone who can benefit from these plans knows about them. The goal is simple: to make sure every eligible person in India has access to these important financial and social safety nets. This grand effort is a big step towards achieving the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ – a developed India, where everyone is financially strong and protected.
The press meeting ended with a clear message: this campaign is all about helping our communities grow stronger, one family at a time. Senior officials from Bank of Baroda, including Shri Vipin Kumar Garg, Shri Ranjit Ranjan Das, and Smt. Veena K. Shah was also present, showing their support for this important mission.
