Plastic-Free Tomorrow: How HDFC Bank’s Parivartan is Leading the Green Charge
Newzdaddy Business Updates
Ahead of World Environment Day, HDFC Bank Parivartan starts an awareness campaign against plastic with the goal of establishing material recovery facilities in 15 urban local bodies by 2025 and putting solid waste management systems in place in over 1,000 communities.
HDFC Bank launched an awareness campaign to raise awareness about the usage of plastic in advance of World Environment Day on June 5, further solidifying its commitment to environmental responsibility. The Bank is holding awareness campaigns for its clients, staff, and the public as part of the project.
The campaign, which will be implemented under HDFC Bank’s CSR program Parivartan, would urge consumers in a few Bank branches to adopt plastic substitutes for everyday necessities and to recycle their plastic e-waste at the branch. Additionally, the Bank will be holding employee-led awareness campaigns, collection drives, and clean-up drives to promote group efforts to cut back on plastic usage.
The Bank has also developed a special website to educate people about the harm that plastic pollution causes to the environment and to allow them to make an online commitment to use less plastic in their daily lives by adopting easy yet powerful practices.
The Bank is expanding its community-led waste management initiatives throughout India in tandem with the awareness campaign. By 2025, the Bank hopes to have material recovery facilities in 15 urban local bodies and solid waste management systems in more than 1,000 villages thanks to Parivartan efforts.
The Bank has adopted a comprehensive strategy to reduce reliance on landfills, recycle, and separate garbage in different parts of India. Engaging locals through educational programs, art installations, and behaviour change campaigns, these initiatives span Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh and are in line with national missions like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We at HDFC Bank think that meaningful change is co-created with communities,” stated Mr. Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director. Through the participation of residents, our Parivartan projects, such as the plastic awareness campaign, are intended to promote local ownership and have a long-lasting effect. We are contributing to environmental protection and bolstering the social and economic fabric of the communities we serve by banding together to combat plastic pollution.
In collaboration with Waste Warriors, a significant initiative in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, unveiled a 26-foot painting composed of recycled plastic bottle tops. In FY 2024–2025, HDFC Bank is removing more than 200 metric tonnes of dry garbage from landfills in Bir and Dharamshala by conducting a “Behaviour Change Campaign” in 10 panchayats.
To transform garbage into business opportunities, the Bank collaborated with Gram Panchayats in Visakhapatnam to train SHGs and sanitation staff. Similar programs have improved local livelihoods, integrated informal trash workers, and processed thousands of tonnes of dry waste in Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Kerala.
