Synopsis of the Article:
Adani Group introduces India’s first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics.
The truck is deployed at Chhattisgarh’s Gare Pelma III Block to transport coal.
It is powered by hydrogen fuel cells, offering a 200 km range and carrying up to 40 tons.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the first truck in Raipur.
Adani aims to replace diesel trucks with hydrogen-powered vehicles for sustainability.
The project is a collaboration between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL).
The initiative is part of Adani’s mission to decarbonize mining operations.
Hydrogen fuel cells emit only water vapor, making them environmentally friendly.
Adani Natural Resources is the first in Asia to use Dozer Push Semi-Autonomous Technology.
This shift aims to reduce emissions, noise, and dependency on diesel in mining logistics.
In a groundbreaking step towards sustainable transportation, Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the Adani Group, introduced India’s very first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics. The eco-friendly vehicle was flagged off in Raipur by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, marking a significant move toward decarbonizing mining operations.
The hydrogen-powered truck, developed in collaboration with both Indian and international energy technology firms, is a testament to Adani’s commitment to sustainability. This state-of-the-art vehicle, equipped with three hydrogen tanks, is capable of carrying 40 tons of cargo over a distance of 200 kilometers. The first of its kind in India, the truck will be used to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to Chhattisgarh’s power plant.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai praised the initiative, saying, “The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for the industry.” He further added that Chhattisgarh is not just a leader in meeting the country’s power demands but is also setting examples in sustainable practices.
The introduction of these trucks is part of a broader effort by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both integral parts of Adani Enterprises. ANR, which handles the natural resources sector, has teamed up with ANIL to source hydrogen cells. ANIL is already engaged in green hydrogen, wind turbine manufacturing, solar module production, and battery manufacturing, all aligning with Adani’s vision for a cleaner and greener energy landscape.
Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO of Natural Resources and Director at Adani Enterprises, highlighted the company’s dedication to decarbonizing mining. He said, “We are creating model mines with minimal environmental impact. Our focus is on integrating hydrogen-powered trucks, autonomous technologies, solar power, and tree transplanters to revolutionize mining.”
Hydrogen is the most abundant element on Earth, and its use as fuel produces only water vapor and warm air, making it a clean alternative to diesel. Hydrogen-powered trucks not only match diesel-powered ones in terms of range and load capacity but also operate with far less noise. Given the heavy diesel consumption in mining, this shift is expected to cut emissions and reduce noise pollution significantly. Moreover, this innovation aims to minimize India’s dependency on crude oil imports while promoting a sustainable mining ecosystem.
Adani Natural Resources is not stopping at hydrogen-powered trucks. It is also the first company in Asia to deploy Dozer Push Semi-Autonomous Technology, which increases safety and efficiency in mining operations. This innovative technology allows for precise operations with minimal human intervention, enhancing safety and productivity.
Adani’s venture into hydrogen-powered logistics represents a major leap toward sustainable industrial practices in India. With plans to introduce more such trucks soon, the company is setting new benchmarks for responsible mining and green logistics.
