Gujarati cinema is going through an exciting change, and the latest example is the film Mahek – Every Secret Has a Price, a dark murder mystery that breaks away from the usual comedies and family dramas the industry is known for.

The poster of “Mahek” was launched at a special event in Ahmedabad, and it wasn’t like any regular film event. It was organised by TAFF (The Artist Foundation Forum), a group known for doing things differently. Instead of inviting only celebrities or film personalities, the team behind Mahek did something bold — they launched the poster among everyday people, their real audience.
Writer and director Asif Silavat is the driving force behind this new-age thriller. He’s not afraid to break the rules. “People think Gujarati films can only be about comedy or family stories. I want to destroy that thinking. I want to break those bloody barriers,” he said during the event.
“Mahek” dives into the dark zone — a genre that very few Gujarati filmmakers dare to explore. It’s intense, bloody, and full of mystery. Asif even said he’s fine if the film gets an ‘A’ certificate from the censor board because he believes in showing raw and real stories.
According to him, this is the kind of film people usually see on platforms like Netflix, and now, he wants Gujarati audiences to experience that in their own language.
The poster launch event took place at Ramodi Banquet, located in Bopal, Ahmedabad. The evening had a beautiful black theme to match the dark nature of the movie. Everyone attending, including guests and the film crew, wore black, which gave the night a classy and mysterious vibe.
Another highlight was the food. Curated by Pruthvi Luxury Caterers, the menu included the season’s royal fruit — the Kesar Mango. The event was charmingly called Kesar Keri ni Mahek (The Fragrance of Kesar Mango), tying the mango theme beautifully with the film’s title.
Unlike most film events that happen behind closed doors, this one was open. Families who came for dinner also got to enjoy the poster launch. This rare approach made the evening even more special.
“Mahek” is being produced under the banner of RHSG Productions. The film features popular fitness coach Sapna Vyas in a lead role. She is joined by actors Utsav Nayak, Nisarg Mistry, Prince Limbadia, Mohit Sharma, and Bansi Rajput — a talented mix of fresh and experienced faces.
The film is scheduled to start shooting soon in the beautiful landscapes of Uttarakhand. The mountains and forests of the state are expected to give the film the perfect eerie and suspenseful backdrop.
Tanmay Sheth, the head of TAFF and the film’s marketing lead, believes that films should connect directly with the audience. That’s why this launch was held publicly. TAFF is known for supporting creativity and giving a platform to fresh, bold stories.
With films like Mahek, TAFF is hoping to inspire more filmmakers to explore different genres and raise the standard of Gujarati films.
