Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has been recognized as a global leader in climate action and environmental performance by four prestigious rating agencies. These agencies, including CDP, S&P, Sustainalytics, and Moody’s, have lauded APSEZ for its exemplary efforts in addressing climate change risks and implementing sustainable practices.
CDP Climate Assessment
In the CDP Climate Assessment 2023, APSEZ was awarded the esteemed leadership band “A-” for its commendable initiatives in tackling climate change risks and opportunities. Out of around 23,000 participating companies, APSEZ stood out for its emission reduction initiatives, climate governance, and robust risk management processes. This recognition highlights APSEZ’s commitment to implementing current best practices in climate action and sustainability.
S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment
APSEZ achieved the top position in the environmental dimension of the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2023 among 324 leading companies in the Global Transportation and Transportation Infrastructure sector. The assessment, which evaluates various sustainability indicators, including climate strategy and performance, recognized APSEZ’s continuous improvement in its environmental practices. APSEZ’s score improvement over three consecutive years underscores its dedication to environmental sustainability.
Sustainalytics Low Carbon Transition Rating
Sustainalytics, in its January 2024 update, ranked APSEZ as the top company in the ports sector in its Low Carbon Transition Rating. This rating assesses a company’s alignment with global net-zero targets and projected emissions. Despite current projections aligning with a 1.7°C rise in global temperature, APSEZ has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, a decade earlier than the global requirement. Sustainalytics also recognized APSEZ’s low to negligible risk rating in environmental dimensions, emphasizing its strong risk management framework.
Moody’s Energy Transition Rating
Moody’s awarded APSEZ an ‘Advanced’ rating in its Energy Transition Rating, reflecting the company’s leadership position in addressing energy transition challenges. Additionally, Moody’s evaluated APSEZ’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance in 2022, where the company secured top rankings in the Transport & Logistics sector globally and in India. This recognition showcases APSEZ’s holistic approach towards sustainability across different sectors and regions.

In Moody’s evaluation of 4,885 companies globally across various ESG indicators, policies, processes, and systems, APSEZ emerged as a top performer in the Transport & Logistics sector. Notably, APSEZ ranked first in India for its ESG performance across all sectors, highlighting its commitment to sustainability within the country. The forthcoming assessment by Moody’s is anticipated to further validate APSEZ’s ongoing efforts in advancing its ESG agenda.
