Adani Power 800 MW Boosts MP’s Energy Future

Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private sector thermal power generator, today said it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Ltd. (MPPMCL) for the supply of power from a new 800 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed in Anuppur district of MP. Ultra-supercritical plants use very high-pressure steam for higher efficiency and lower emissions—good for both the climate and electricity bills.
Adani Power bid a tariff of Rs 5.838 per kWh in a competitive bidding process conducted by the MP state.
That rate is quite competitive; similar new coal plants in India often bid higher, so this shows strong pricing discipline by Adani Power, helping consumers enjoy affordable electricity.
Adani Power will supply power to MP Discom from a greenfield 800 MW Ultra-supercritical power plant to be set up at Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh at an investment of ~INR 10,500 Cr.
Greenfield means starting fresh from scratch. INR 10,500 Cr is a massive investment, more than a billion dollars helping create state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The said project will help Madhya Pradesh to meet its ever-growing electricity demand owing to increased industrialisation and urbanisation. The company will invest ~10,500 crore towards setting up the plant and related infrastructure.
MP’s industrial zones and cities are growing fast. More power will keep factories running and homes lit, which supports job growth and better living standards.
Adani Power Ltd. emerged as one of the lowest bidders in a highly competitive bidding process, with the final tariff of Rs 5.838 per kWh. As part of the contract, the Company will supply power from a new 800 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power unit, to be set up under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, in the state. The unit will be commissioned within 54 months of the appointed date.
A 54-month build window (about 4.5 years) is standard for big thermal plants. The DBFOO model means Adani handles everything—from design to daily operation—making them fully accountable for success.

Base load power, like from this plant, runs all the time. It keeps lights on in homes, powers hospitals, schools, and factories—and that supports continuous development.
The coal linkage for the power plant has been allocated under the SHAKTI Policy of the Government of India to the state of Madhya Pradesh. The project is expected to generate ~6,000–7,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase and employ around 1,000 personnel once operational.
The SHAKTI Policy helps states secure coal supplies on fixed terms—critical for uninterrupted power. The job numbers mean real local benefits: thousands of workers during the build, and steady jobs later for operations.
The company expects to execute the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) in due course with the State Discom.
The PSA is the official contract that guarantees payment and supply terms. It’s key in turning an LoA into a live power project.
This is the fourth major power supply order received by the company in the last 12 months. In September 2024, it, along with Adani Green Energy, received the LoI for a composite 6,600 MW (5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal) power supply order from Maharashtra state. In May 2025, it received the LoA from the Uttar Pradesh government for the supply of 1,600 MW of power from a greenfield plant in the state. In August 2025, the company received the LoA from the Bihar government for the supply of 2,400 MW of power from a new power plant to be set up in the state.
This series of awards shows Adani Power’s growing footprint across multiple states—Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now Madhya Pradesh, strengthening India’s grid and adding “focus on reliable growth.”
