Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to present India’s bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030.
The Cabinet has also given permission to sign the Host City Agreement (HCA) with all required guarantees from ministries, departments, and authorities. If the bid is accepted, the Cabinet has allowed grant-in-aid support to the Government of Gujarat.
The Commonwealth Games will see participation from 72 countries. Apart from athletes, there will also be coaches, technical officials, tourists, media persons, and many others. This large participation will help local businesses grow and bring income.
Ahmedabad is seen as the perfect host city because it has world-class stadiums, modern training facilities, and a strong sports culture. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest stadium, has already shown its ability by successfully hosting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final.
Hosting the CWG in India will not only boost sports but will also give a big push to tourism, create jobs, and inspire millions of young athletes.
It will also create professional opportunities in many areas like sports science, event operations, logistics, transport, broadcasting, IT, public relations, and media. Many young professionals will find new career paths through this mega event.
Organizing such a big global event will bring pride to the nation and strengthen the feeling of unity. It will also create a shared national experience that lifts the spirit of the people.
Most importantly, it will inspire a new generation of athletes to take up sports as a career option and will encourage more participation in sports at every level across the country.
