Olympic-Level Facilities At Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025

The newly constructed international standard sports Complex will witness its first international sporting event, which is the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025. On Sunday, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, declared it open. He siad that India wants to be one of the top five sports countries in the world by 2047. Mandaviya spoke during the opening of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 in Ahmedabad. He said that India’s sports ecosystem is getting stronger under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership so that the country may become the best in the world for hosting international sports such as Olympics, Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

Mandaviya, who is in charge of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, said that India is getting ready for international competition by focusing on constructing world-class infrastructure, policies that put athletes first, and open government.

Manshukh Mandaviya added by saying that tournaments like the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship motivate young athletes and encourage them to perform better every time. This type of competition brings together the best athletes from all over the Commonwealth nations and provides a better competition platform to excel in life. This will give the Indian weightlifters a chance to compete on a global stage and learn very important lessons of discipline and mental toughness.

Mandvaviya went on to add that “India’s strength is India’s demographic dividend.” The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has promised to make India one of the top 10 sports nations in the next ten years. Mandaviya stated, “We are also working towards a long-term goal of putting India among the top five sporting nations by 2047, in line with the vision of a developed India.”

The Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, is hosting the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025 from August 24 to 30. There will be 291 competitors from 30 Commonwealth countries competing for 144 medals in senior, junior, and youth categories. This championship will also be a way to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2026.

Sports have been one of the most important aspects of Indian Culture since ancient times.  However, the type of sports kept changing. Mandaviya said that Prime Minister Modi has made such policies that youth and parents consider sports as a career and work hard to achieve the goal.  The government have drafted such policies so that the athletes can get ready for international contests and to make sports a life-changing career for every athlete. These changes include “Khelo India” and “Fit India.”

The Khelo India initiative helps young athletes by giving them places to train, events to compete in, and scholarships. The Fit India Movement, on the other hand, promotes fitness as a way of life. They work together to build a stronger sports ecosystem that leads to success on the world stage.

The Union Minister also talked on the government’s new sports strategy, which aims to make sports available to everyone, improve infrastructure, and provide everyone an equal chance to play. It is very important to make sure that women and athletes with disabilities have a voice and the chance to participate at all levels.

Mohammed Jalood Al-Shammari, president of the International Weightlifting Federation, said that the championship is very important for qualifying for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Paul Coffa, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, said that the tournament is being planned to reach Olympic-level standards, which means that the facilities, lodgings, and competition conditions will all be world-class.

India will host the Asian Aquatics Championship in September and October 2025, right after the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship. China, Japan, and Korea are some of the best swimming countries that will be there. India is also one of the host countries for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026 Qualifiers. All the games will be played at The Arena by TransStadia in Ahmedabad. India, Iran, Palestine, Chinese Taipei, and Lebanon will all be in Group D.

The Asian Weightlifting Championship and the Archery Asia Para Cup – World Ranking Tournament will be held in Ahmedabad in 2026. India will also hold the World Police and Fire Games 2029 in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Ekta Nagar (Kevadia). Hosting these events shows that India wants to be a top sports country and allows local players a chance to compete at the highest level.

The Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship is a big step towards India’s goal of being one of the top five sports countries by 2047. India is continuously moving towards its goal of sporting success by giving athletes a worldwide stage, improving facilities, and making policies that include everyone.
