Delhi Raids Recover Fake NBC Bearings Worth More Than ₹2.55 Crore

Police operations in Mayapuri and Sadar Bazaar uncover counterfeit bearings, packaging material and machinery allegedly used to produce fake NBC-branded products.

Police raids in Delhi have led to the seizure of counterfeit NBC-branded bearings and related materials valued at more than ₹2.55 crore, according to National Engineering Industries Ltd. (NEI), the manufacturer of NBC Bearings. The operations targeted suspected counterfeit production and distribution activities in Mayapuri and Sadar Bazaar.

The raids were conducted by the District Investigation Unit (DIU) of West District Police, along with personnel from Mayapuri Police Station. The action followed complaints filed by NBC through its authorised representatives, who assisted the police in examining the recovered goods.

The seized items included thousands of bearings carrying the NBC brand name, empty cartons, pouches, dies and a laser-marking machine. The machine was allegedly used to mark forged identification codes on products, according to the company’s account of the operations.

Police also targeted units in Sadar Bazaar suspected of involvement in making and distributing counterfeit NBC products. The recovery of specialised marking equipment suggests that the suspected activity may have involved more than the sale of fake goods, although the full extent of the operations has not been established in the information released by the company.

NBC’s technical experts and authorised representatives helped enforcement teams inspect the seized stock and check whether the products were genuine. Details about arrests, formal charges and the next stages of the investigation were not provided in the company’s announcement.

Bearings are small mechanical components that allow parts of a machine to move with less friction. They are used in cars, commercial vehicles, factory equipment and railway systems, among other applications.

Their performance can affect how safely and reliably machinery operates. A bearing that fails under load or during regular use can cause equipment breakdowns and costly repairs. In vehicles, a failure in a safety-related component can create risks for drivers and passengers, depending on where and how the part is used.

Counterfeit products create an added problem because buyers may believe they are purchasing goods made and tested by the original manufacturer. A fake bearing carrying a recognised brand name may not have undergone the same checks for materials, dimensions, manufacturing quality and performance.

The immediate financial value of the seized goods gives an indication of the scale of the Delhi operation. However, the figure of more than ₹2.55 crore refers to the value reported for the seized counterfeit products and related material. The company has not provided a breakdown showing how that amount was calculated.

The seizure also included empty packaging and equipment allegedly used to mark products. Such items can help investigators examine how counterfeit goods were prepared, labelled and supplied. Establishing who manufactured the products, who distributed them and whether they reached customers will depend on the findings of the investigation.

National Engineering Industries Ltd. is part of the CKA Birla Group and manufactures products under the NBC Bearings brand. Founded in Jaipur in 1946, the company supplies bearings for automotive, industrial and railway applications, among other sectors.

Bearings are used in a wide range of equipment, from vehicle assemblies to heavy industrial machinery. Manufacturers and repair businesses depend on parts that meet the technical requirements of the equipment in which they are fitted. This makes product identification and the purchase of genuine components important for businesses that maintain vehicles and machinery.

For manufacturers, counterfeit products can also affect customers’ trust in a brand. When a fake component carries the name of an established company, a buyer may blame the original manufacturer if the part fails. The genuine manufacturer may then face complaints, financial losses and damage to its reputation.

Commenting on the Delhi operations, Rajesh Premchandran, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, NBC, said: “Counterfeit bearings pose serious risks to vehicle safety and industrial reliability while undermining customer trust and causing economic losses. NBC maintains a zero-tolerance approach to counterfeiting and remains committed to working with the relevant authorities to protect customers, uphold product authenticity and safeguard the integrity of its brand.”

The statement sets out the company’s position on the sale of fake products. The police investigation will determine the facts relating to the suspected activities uncovered in Delhi.

NBC advises customers to purchase bearings through authorised dealers and verify their authenticity using the NBC Connect app. The app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

According to the company, users can enter the bearing code marked on the product to check whether it is genuine. The process is intended to help customers identify questionable products before using them in repairs or machinery.

Buying through an authorised dealer provides another way to reduce the risk of receiving counterfeit goods. Customers who have doubts about a product can seek confirmation from the manufacturer or its authorised representatives rather than relying only on packaging or a familiar brand name.

The Delhi seizures form part of NBC Bearings’ continuing efforts to tackle counterfeiting through complaints and cooperation with law enforcement agencies. The company has said it will continue working with the relevant authorities and raising awareness among customers and channel partners.

For buyers, the practical concern remains the source and authenticity of the component being purchased. The recovered bearings, packaging and marking equipment now form part of the material linked to the Delhi operations. Further details from the authorities would help establish the scale of the suspected network and the people responsible for producing or circulating the fake products.
