Gujarat – A Key Market for Thomas Cook India

One of the top omnichannel travel service providers in India, Thomas Cook (India) Limited, has found that Gujarat is a vital and rapidly expanding market. Thomas Cook has taken advantage of this potential by implementing a two-pronged strategy that includes growing its distribution network and creating strategic items that are suited to the particular needs of Gujarati tourists.

With ten locations in Gujarat’s five largest cities—Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar—Thomas Cook India has increased its footprint in the state. Cities in tiers two and three, like as Jamnagar, Anand, and Mehsana, are also expanding significantly. A robust omnichannel presence via a mix of physical locations and digital channels, such as applications, chatbots, and an intuitive portal, complements this vast distribution network.

In order to meet the growing demand for outbound travel from Gujarat, Thomas Cook was the first to establish special direct flights from Ahmedabad to Bhutan. Since there are now no commercial air flights connecting Gujarat and Bhutan, this project fills a sizable market vacuum. In addition to local Gujarati cuisine, which includes vegetarian and Jain meal options to accommodate Gujarati travelers’ requirements, the six-night program offers unique Bhutanese experiences.

The company’s portfolio of spiritual tourism has grown by more than 100% annually in places like Char Dham, Ayodhya, Rameswaram, and Amritsar. In addition to being well-liked by senior residents, these tours are also drawing in multigenerational families, honeymooners, and even millennials.

There are now special Gujarati regional group excursions like Adhbhut Asia, Aneru Europe, and Albelu Europe. These tours accommodate dietary requirements with vegetarian and Jain meals and have knowledgeable tour organizers who understand Gujarati.

Gujaratis love to travel, taking advantage of weekends and public holidays to take several short getaways. Longer stays and a move towards more immersive travel experiences have resulted in a discernible 40–45% rise in demand for travel compared to 2019. Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea are popular travel destinations. Because of their more lenient visa policies, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Uzbekistan are also gaining popularity.

With a strong demand for trips to Char Dham, Varanasi, Rameswaram, and the Ramayan trails in Sri Lanka, pilgrimage tourism is still thriving. A variety of age groups and family types participate in this segment.

The significance of Gujarat as a vital gateway was underlined by Mr. Romil Pant, Executive Vice President at Thomas Cook India. In order to accommodate the increasing interest in Bhutan and give Gujarati tourists a smooth travel experience, he emphasized the need for new direct flights from Ahmedabad to Bhutan.

The launch would strengthen the cultural and personal relationships between India and Bhutan, said Carissa Nimah, Chief Marketing Officer, Department of Tourism Bhutan.
