Gujarat Local Body Elections Gain Momentum with Emotional Public Support

On this occasion, while speaking to party workers and the public, Shri Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma said that Matar has played an important role in India’s freedom history. Matar and nearby areas in Kheda district were part of early farmer movements led during the freedom struggle. These movements helped bring people together against British rule and created strong unity among villagers. The land of Nadiad has given us the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was born in Nadiad and later became a key leader in India’s freedom movement. He led farmers in Kheda and Bardoli and played a major role in uniting more than 500 princely states into one nation after independence.

The first municipal corporation election is going to be held in Nadiad. This is an important step because Nadiad was recently upgraded from a municipality to a municipal corporation to improve city planning and public services. It is a matter of pride to be elected as a councillor for the first time in the land of Sardar Saheb. He expressed full confidence that all 52 BJP candidates from 13 wards of Nadiad Municipal Corporation, as well as all BJP candidates in the local body elections of Kheda district, will win with a big margin. These elections are part of a larger state-wide process where thousands of seats across Gujarat are being contested, with millions of voters expected to take part.

He said that around the year 2000, when Gujarat was facing natural disasters and water shortage, the then Chief Minister and now Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, took charge of the state. During that time, Gujarat had serious challenges like droughts and weak infrastructure. Over the years, several large projects, including water supply systems and roads, were developed to improve daily life. He ended politics based on caste and region and started a new era of development politics. Under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modi, today, not only Gujarat but also 19 states and 2 Union Territories in the country have BJP and NDA governments working for the people. In recent elections, the BJP has also won strong majorities in Gujarat, showing continued support among voters.

The people of Gujarat have shown strong trust in the BJP and Shri Modi for the past 30 years. Because of this, the symbol of the lotus is spreading with development. Gujarat today is one of India’s key economic states, with strong industry, long coastline trade, and growing urban areas.

He said that after independence, Congress ruled for 60 years, but for Congress, power was only a way to support family rule and exploit the people. Shri Vishwakarma added that Congress saw Indians only as workers and followed the politics of caste divisions. The party focused on family rule and kept exploiting the people. BJP is not a party that appears only during elections. More than 50,000 booth-level workers stay among the people and work with service and dedication. This strong booth system is often seen as one reason for the BJP’s success in elections across states.

Remembering the difficult times during Congress rule, the state president said that Gujarat was once known for crime, curfews and riots. He recalled 19 March 1987 and said that just like farmers are facing police action in Punjab today, Congress had opened fire on 19 innocent farmers in Gujarat and killed them. Today, the same “black hand” is trying to take control of Gujarat’s treasury, but people have already given them a strong reply. In this local body election, all BJP candidates have entered the field with a strong promise to continue development work and stay connected with the people. Elections in Gujarat often see strong political competition between the BJP, Congress and other parties, especially at the local level.

Talking about the government’s work, Shri Vishwakarma said that soon after becoming Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi approved the installation of gates at the Sardar Sarovar Dam within just 17 days, which helped solve Gujarat’s long-standing water problem. Large water projects like this have helped bring irrigation and drinking water to many areas of the state. Today, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the state government is giving ₹10,000 crore as relief to farmers affected by heavy rains, purchasing crops worth ₹15,000 crore at support prices, and providing help for buying tractors. These steps are part of wider efforts across India to support farmers with subsidies and better prices.

During the Congress rule, farmers lived in darkness and did not get electricity even at the right time. Today, Gujarat has 24-hour electricity, and farmers get power during the day for farming. Gujarat is often noted for its strong power supply system compared to many other states.

He also showed anger over repeated remarks by Congress national president Khargeji, which he said insult Gujaratis. He said that the people of the country will never accept any insult to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi or Gujarat. After insulting Gujaratis, Khargeji has now called Shri Modi a terrorist, which shows the poor thinking of Congress. The Congress party is sinking. A party that cannot protect its own chosen candidates cannot serve the country or the state. Political debates and sharp comments are common during election time, especially in high-stakes contests like the ongoing local body polls.

He welcomed the unopposed victory of BJP candidates in local body elections and urged people to vote in large numbers on the 26th to make the “lotus of development” even stronger. In some seats across Gujarat, candidates have already won without contest, showing the strength of political support in certain areas.

At this programme, district BJP president Smt. Nayanaben Patel, Member of Parliament, Shri Devusinh Chauhan, district in-charge Shri Rameshbhai Desai, MLAs, state general secretary of Kisan Morcha Smt. Hemalben Patel, senior leaders, party members, workers and a large number of citizens were present.
