Historic Ahmedabad 2030 CWG Recommendation
Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya Celebrate Ahmedabad 2030 CWG Bid: A Huge Moment for India
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya says it’s a “huge moment for Indian sports” when Ahmedabad is suggested to host the 2030 CWG. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, celebrated the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board’s recommendation of Ahmedabad as the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games host city on Wednesday.
The Commonwealth Sport Executive Board’s recommendation of Ahmedabad as the potential host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games was praised by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday, calling it a great milestone for the nation. “A momentous occasion for Indian sports! A historic milestone for our country, we are grateful to the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport for suggesting Ahmedabad as the potential host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games.
“This decision reflects India’s growing dominance in global sport, made possible by the visionary leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, whose commitment has put India firmly on the world sporting map,” he stated.
In addition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the public on Commonwealth Sport’s acceptance of India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, saying it supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to establish India as a major player in international sports.
According to him, the government is building top-notch facilities and cultivating a national talent pool for sports.
“A day of great pride and happiness for India. Best wishes to all Indians on Commonwealth Sport’s endorsement of India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.
In a post on X, he stated, “It is a huge endorsement of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s unrelenting efforts to put India on the global sports map.”
“By raising world-class infrastructure and a nationwide pool of sports talent, Modi Ji has made India a marvel of a sports destination,” he stated.
On Wednesday, the Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport declared that Ahmedabad has been recommended as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games Centenary.
According to a press statement from the official Commonwealth Games website, Ahmedabad will now be considered for full Commonwealth Sport membership. The final decision will be taken during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025.
The proposal comes after a thorough assessment by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, which evaluated applicant cities based on a number of criteria, including as infrastructure, governance, athlete experience, technical delivery, and compatibility with Commonwealth values.
Both Ahmedabad (India) and Abuja (Nigeria) presented strong bids demonstrating their preparedness and vision to host the Games, which were framed under the organisation’s “Games Reset” principles, which are intended to promote creativity and cooperation.
For the Commonwealth Sport Movement, the recommendation marks a significant turning point. In 2030, the Games will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first competition, which took place in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. With Glasgow 2026 drawing near and promising to give a “wow factor” for both athletes and spectators, today’s suggestion offers long-term stability and momentum while providing an exciting platform for the Centenary Games and beyond.
The most populated country in the Commonwealth, India, has a long history of athletic achievement and a solid track record of winning medals at the Commonwealth Games. In 2022, it placed fourth on the medal table in Birmingham. India’s dedication to the Commonwealth’s ideals and its ability to host a Games that accurately captures the scope and diversity of contemporary sport are highlighted in Amdavad’s bid.
Furthermore, the Commonwealth Sport Executive Board has decided to create a plan to help and expedite Nigeria’s aspirations to host future Games, including 2034, in light of the country’s outstanding and ambitious bid. This choice bolsters Commonwealth Sport’s strategic resolve to organise a Games in Africa and safeguard the future Games pipeline.
