Kolkata, October 17, 2023: S B Park’s annual Durga Puja in Kolkata is famous for trying new things. This year, for its 53rd anniversary, they went big with a theme called “Elem Notun Deshe,” meaning “We have arrived in a new land.” The big attraction? Huge incense sticks that stand 6 feet tall and burn for three whole days! The lovely smell from these big incense sticks spreads for more than a mile.
They kicked off the puja with important people like Sri. Dilip Mondal, who is a minister in the State Transport Department of West Bengal, and the famous actress Smt. Sampurna Lahiri, who is also the festival’s brand ambassador.

S B Park’s club president, Mr. Sanjay Majumder, said they are very proud to celebrate the 53rd year with this special theme. In a world where there are many problems, like politics, religion, money, and the climate, the puja tries to find answers with art. The idea of “We have arrived in a new land” comes from Rabindranath Tagore, a famous writer. He talked about a life where there are no differences or divisions. The festival area itself shows this idea. Just like birds don’t need a country or a passport to fly, people at the puja feel like there are no differences. Mr. Sanjay Majumder invited everyone to come and enjoy the festival with their family and friends. It’s a special celebration that brings people together.
