On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) held a tribute at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. Leaders and party workers offered flowers at his statue. After this, GPCC President Amit Chavda spoke to the media and remembered the important role Rajiv Gandhi played in building modern India.

Amit Chavda said Rajiv Gandhi was a dreamer of modern India. He was the youngest Prime Minister of the country and is known as the father of the communication revolution. In the 1980s, India was very different. There were very few telephones, and technology was only in big cities. Rajiv Gandhi worked to bring computers, telecommunication, and satellites to India. Because of his vision, India began connecting with the world. Today, even children in villages hold a mobile phone and can talk to people across the globe.

He also believed strongly in giving women and youth a bigger role in politics. Half of India’s population is women, and Rajiv Gandhi wanted them to be decision-makers. He made changes in the Constitution to reserve seats for women in local self-government. This step opened doors for thousands of women to join politics at the village, district, and state levels.

Rajiv Gandhi also gave voting rights to 18-year-olds. Before his time, only people aged 21 and above could vote. His decision gave millions of young Indians the chance to be part of democracy. It was a historic move that made India’s political system more youthful and energetic.

He was also a strong supporter of decentralisation of power. He believed that real democracy should reach villages. Through the Panchayati Raj reforms, he gave more power to village councils. This allowed local people to make decisions about their own schools, roads, and development work. Today, the Panchayati Raj system remains one of its biggest contributions to India.

In 1987, Rajiv Gandhi introduced Technology Missions. These were focused on universal vaccination for children, clean drinking water, increasing oilseed production, spreading education, and developing telecommunication. These missions helped India improve public health, agriculture, and access to modern facilities. For example, the universal immunisation program saved millions of children from deadly diseases.

Because of Rajiv Gandhi’s forward thinking, today’s youth hold smartphones and have the internet in their hands. This has changed education, business, and communication in India. His dream of making India strong and progressive is still guiding the country’s growth.

Apart from being a visionary leader, Rajiv Gandhi was also known as a kind human being. He believed in harmony and peace. He inspired millions of young Indians to dream big. On his birth anniversary, millions of people across the country remember him with respect. At Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the tribute ceremony saw large participation from leaders and workers who bowed down to him with flowers.

Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions remain a foundation for India’s journey into the 21st century. His ideas on technology, youth power, and women’s participation continue to shape the nation even today.
