Udta Teer: Ayushmann and Sara Bring Spy Comedy to Ahmedabad

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan Bring Spy Comedy ‘Udta Teer’ to Ahmedabad Ahead of October 9 Release

Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan visited Ahmedabad to promote their upcoming film Udta Teer, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas across India on October 9, 2026. During a press conference in the city, the actors spoke about the film, which puts a comic twist on the familiar spy thriller format.

Directed by Akash A. Kaushik, Udta Teer follows a Pakistani agent who enters India on a mission but loses his memory after an unexpected accident. The incident turns his mission upside down when he begins to believe that he is an Indian spy. Ayushmann Khurrana plays Bilal Ahmad, the agent at the centre of the story, while Sara Ali Khan stars alongside him.

The film uses mistaken identity and memory loss to create situations that bring comedy into a spy story. Its plot moves away from the usual image of secret agents involved in serious missions, bringing family entertainment and humour into the mix.

For Ahmedabad audiences, the visit offered an opportunity to hear from the lead actors about a film that combines two familiar elements of Hindi cinema: comedy and espionage. The city regularly hosts promotional events for Hindi films, giving actors and filmmakers a chance to meet local media and discuss their upcoming releases.

The Ahmedabad visit comes as the film enters its final promotional phase. Its trailer was released on September 23, giving audiences their first look at the story and its blend of action and comedy. The footage shows Bilal waking up with no memory of his true identity and believing he belongs to India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad. His mistaken belief creates problems for those who know his real identity and sets up several comic situations.

The trailer also gives a glimpse of action scenes, including fights and explosions. These sequences form the backdrop for the film’s humour, which draws on the confusion surrounding Bilal’s identity. The story uses the relationship between India and Pakistan as part of its spy-fiction setting, while placing the main focus on a character caught between two identities.

For Khurrana, the film marks a return to comedy-led cinema, a genre that has played an important part in his career. Films such as Vicky Donor, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Badhaai Ho and Dream Girl helped establish his screen image through characters dealing with everyday problems in unusual situations. His roles have often combined humour with subjects that audiences can recognise from daily life.

His work in films dealing with social issues has also brought him a different kind of audience. Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, for instance, used comedy to discuss an intimate health issue, while Article 15 placed him in a serious crime drama. Udta Teer takes him back towards broad comedy, with a story built around an unusual situation rather than a social issue.

Sara Ali Khan, who has worked in romantic comedies, family dramas and action-oriented films, joins him in the lead cast. The film marks the pair’s second collaboration after Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Their previous work together gives audiences a point of comparison as they appear in another comedy-based story.

The film’s production brings together Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, two companies with experience in different areas of Hindi cinema. Dharma Productions, led by filmmaker Karan Johar, has produced a wide range of commercial films. Sikhya Entertainment, founded by Guneet Monga Kapoor, has also worked on films that have received international attention, including The Lunchbox. The two companies have previously worked together on projects such as Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah.

Udta Teer is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Akash A. Kaushik, who has also written the story. For a first-time feature director, working with an established cast and production companies offers an opportunity to bring a new style of storytelling to a wide audience.

The film’s release date has also changed during its production journey. It was initially scheduled to open in cinemas on September 11, 2026, before the makers moved it to October 9. The revised date places it one week after Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3, which is scheduled for October 2. The two films belong to different genres, giving cinema-goers separate options during the October release period.

Theatrical comedy releases face the challenge of attracting audiences who have access to films and entertainment on streaming platforms at home. A recognisable cast, a story that appeals to families and strong audience interest can all play a part in a film’s cinema performance. The response to Udta Teer will become clearer after its release, when audience reactions and box-office figures start to emerge.

For now, the Ahmedabad promotional visit has brought the film closer to local audiences ahead of its nationwide release. With Khurrana and Ali Khan leading a spy comedy built around a case of mistaken identity, Udta Teer is set to reach cinemas on October 9, 2026.
