Young Dixa Patel Launches Her Book “Twisted Whispers”
Ahmedabad Author Dixa Patel Launches Suspense Thriller Twisted Whispers at Literary Event
The launch of Twisted Whispers, a new English-language suspense thriller by Ahmedabad-based very young author Dixa Patel, brought together writers, literary enthusiasts, technology professionals and civic leaders at the Ahmedabad Management Association recently. The event highlighted the continuing popularity of crime fiction and psychological thrillers among readers in Gujarat, a genre that has steadily gained attention alongside the state’s long-standing tradition of literature in Gujarati and English.
The book Twisted Whispers was formally launched in the presence of Ahmedabad Deputy Mayor Anjubenh Shah, who attended as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Sonalben Odedara, an author, film screenwriter, artist and founder of the Heartiest Art Group, and Visionbhai Raval, an artificial intelligence and technology expert, visiting professor, and founder of Sahitya Manch and V-Publishers.
At the event, Ahmedabad Deputy Mayor Anjuben Shah said that she was very happy to see a young girl devoting her time and energy to writing rather than spending time on a screen. She remarked that today’s Gen Z spends just 10 seconds on reels before getting distracted. Drawing from her 15 years of experience as a teacher, she said that she is strongly opposed to young people spending excessive time on gadgets.
Anjuben went on to praise Dixa Patel’s parents for allowing, supporting, and encouraging her to pursue her dream of writing alongside her studies.
The event marked an important milestone for Dixa Patel, a young writer from Ahmedabad whose debut work enters a highly competitive market for crime and suspense fiction. Over the past decade, readers across India have shown increasing interest in mystery novels, psychological thrillers and detective stories, influenced by both international bestsellers and a growing number of Indian authors exploring the genre.
Dixa said that there were hours when she wrote continuously, and there were also hours when she simply stared at a blank screen, facing writer’s block.
The young author appeared confident and energetic during her short but impactful speech. She shared that it took her three months to conduct research and six months to complete the book. Before becoming an author, she had read more than 200 books across different genres.
The book she has written is a work of fiction and has no connection to any living person or character.

At the centre of Twisted Whispers is a story involving murder, revenge, hidden truths and long-buried secrets. The novel follows key characters Mia Porter and Detective Mira Patel as they investigate a series of disturbing events linked to a mysterious death.
According to the Twisted Whispers book’s storyline, the investigation begins after the body of social media personality Julia Montgomery is discovered in an abandoned amusement park.
What initially appears to be a straightforward murder case gradually develops into a complex mystery connected to the dark history of the St. Helena Orphanage, an institution that carries secrets from decades earlier.
As the investigation unfolds, unusual clues emerge. Clumps of hair discovered at crime scenes, a mysterious locket and a shadowy figure known only as “The Ferryman” become central elements of the narrative. The arrival of another character, Logan, introduces further uncertainty and raises new questions about the true motives behind the crimes.
One of the novel’s recurring themes is the influence of the past on the present. A line from the story, “To the past that tried to break me—I hope you are watching,” suggests that the mystery extends beyond criminal investigation and touches on personal trauma, survival and hidden histories.
Crime fiction has long been one of the world’s most widely read literary genres. From the classic detective stories of Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie to modern psychological thrillers by authors such as Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins, readers continue to be drawn to narratives that combine suspense, investigation and unexpected twists.
In India, the genre has also expanded significantly. Writers such as Ashwin Sanghi, Ravi Subramanian and Ankush Saikia have contributed to a growing market for thriller fiction, while digital publishing and online bookselling platforms have helped new authors reach wider audiences. The rise of streaming platforms featuring crime dramas and mystery series has further strengthened public interest in suspense-based storytelling.
Patel said the novel was inspired by her interest in human behaviour and the hidden aspects of the human mind.
“I have always wanted to write about the complexities of the human mind and its hidden secrets. ‘Twisted Whispers’ is not just a fictional story, but an experiment that will make the readers’ minds think. I hope suspense lovers will like this book very much,” she said during the launch event.
Psychological thrillers often explore themes such as memory, fear, guilt and identity. Literary experts note that readers are increasingly attracted to stories that combine traditional mystery elements with emotional and psychological depth. Such books encourage readers to actively participate in solving the mystery while also examining the motivations of the characters involved.
Guests at the launch praised Patel’s storytelling approach and her ability to build suspense gradually throughout the narrative. Speakers at the event noted that emerging writers play an important role in keeping regional literary communities active and diverse, particularly when they choose to write in genres that appeal to younger readers.
Ahmedabad has developed a vibrant literary culture over the years, hosting book fairs, author discussions, literary festivals and publishing events. Organisations such as the Ahmedabad Management Association frequently provide venues for educational and cultural programmes that bring together professionals, students, entrepreneurs and creative artists.
The presence of technology expert Visionbhai Raval at the event also reflected the increasing interaction between literature and technology. Digital publishing tools, artificial intelligence-assisted editing platforms and online distribution networks are changing the way books are written, published and marketed. Independent authors today have more opportunities than ever before to reach readers both within India and internationally.
Similarly, Sonalben Odedara’s participation highlighted the close relationship between literature and visual storytelling. As film and streaming platforms continue to adapt books into screen productions, writers are increasingly exploring narrative techniques that can appeal across multiple formats.
The publication of Twisted Whispers also demonstrates the growing contribution of local authors to India’s English-language publishing landscape. While major publishing houses continue to dominate the market, smaller publishers and independent literary organisations are providing new opportunities for emerging voices.
Industry studies indicate that India’s publishing sector remains one of the largest in the world, producing thousands of new titles annually across multiple languages. English-language fiction continues to account for a significant share of commercial book sales, particularly among younger urban readers.
For readers interested in mysteries, detective fiction and psychological suspense, Twisted Whispers adds a new title to a genre that remains consistently popular. The novel’s focus on hidden secrets, unresolved trauma and investigative storytelling places it within a tradition that has attracted generations of readers seeking both entertainment and intellectual challenge.
The book is now available through major bookstores and online retail platforms. Readers seeking additional information or review copies can contact V-Publishers at its office located in Orchid Mall, Thaltej, Ahmedabad.
With its combination of crime investigation, psychological tension and personal conflict, Twisted Whispers represents the latest contribution from Ahmedabad’s growing community of authors and reflects the continuing appetite among readers for stories that keep them guessing until the final page.
