The Directorate of Extension and Distance Learning (EDLD) thoughtfully organized this meaningful event in collaboration with the School of Internal Security and SMART Policing (SISSP).
The celebration marked not just a date on the calendar but reflected the essence of Gujarat — its culture, heritage, values, and the incredible journey of its people. The campus was filled with a festive spirit as students, faculty, and guests gathered to honor the day Gujarat officially became a state on May 1, 1960.
The program began with a heartfelt welcome for the distinguished guests. Prof.. (Dr.) Kalpesh H Wandra, the Hon’ble Pro Vice-Chancellor of RRU, was the Chief Guest, and Dr. Rizwan Kadri, a young and passionate historian and member of the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library Society, graced the event as the Keynote Speaker. The audience stood in reverence as the iconic Gujarati song “Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat” played, setting a patriotic and emotional tone.
Prof.. (Dr.) Priyanka Sharma, Dean of EDLD, delivered a warm welcome address. She spoke about Gujarat’s formation as a moment of pride and the importance of remembering the rich traditions, values, and cultural threads that bind the state together. Her words beautifully connected Gujarat’s past with its promising future.
One of the highlights of the event was the speech by Dr. Rizwan Kadri. With his deep understanding of history, Dr. Kadri took the audience on a reflective journey through the evolution of Gujarat’s role in India’s freedom struggle. He spoke in detail about the contributions of two of Gujarat’s greatest sons — Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
