  • Meghalaya Police is a state law enforcement agency known for its community-focused approach.

In a big step towards modernizing police training and improving public safety, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya Police. This new collaboration aims to boost learning, research, and training between both institutions.

The MoU was signed in a special ceremony by Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of RRU, and Smt. Idashisha Nongrang, IPS, Director General of Meghalaya Police. Also present were senior officials from both sides, including Dr. Jasbirkaur Thadhani (Dean Academics, RRU), Mr. Bhawani Singh Rathod (Director, SISSP), and top police officers like Shri Dalton P. Marak, Shri Davis NR Marak, Smt. Jubi Momin, Shri Vivek Syiem, and Shri Lakador Syiem.

This agreement will allow RRU students to do internships and attend workshops within Meghalaya Police departments. These hands-on experiences will help students learn how real-life policing works, giving them a clear idea of what it means to serve in law enforcement.

At the same time, Meghalaya Police will open their training centers and classrooms to RRU’s faculty and staff, allowing them to see how police officers are trained on the ground. This will help RRU design even better academic programs for law and security students.

This partnership is not just about sending students or staff for visits. It’s about growing together. RRU will help the police with education, consultancy, and research, especially in areas like criminal law, public safety, and security practices. In return, the police will give field experience and practical insights to the university.

It’s a two-way learning process, where both teams will benefit from shared experiences, ideas, and best practices.

One of the most exciting parts of this partnership is the plan to build SMART policing modules. These are modern training programs focused on technology, community engagement, and professionalism in police work.

These modules are also part of the government’s Mission Karmayogi, which focuses on capacity building and skill development of public servants in India. With the help of RRU’s academic strengths and the police’s practical knowledge, they aim to prepare officers to deal with the new and emerging challenges in law and order.

Both institutions believe this partnership will help build a more skilled and informed police force. The idea is to bridge the gap between books and the real world, so future officers are better prepared to serve communities effectively and with compassion.

RRU’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Bimal N. Patel, said that this is a key step in bringing modern policing techniques into local practice, and it will help the police handle contemporary security challenges more effectively.

Meanwhile, the DG of Meghalaya Police, Smt. Idashisha Nongrang expressed her happiness and said the collaboration will help strengthen police operations and improve how the police work with the public in Meghalaya.

This is more than just an academic tie-up. It is a vision to create safer communities, promote academic excellence, and ensure that India’s police force is always learning, evolving, and staying ahead of the curve.

With this partnership, RRU and Meghalaya Police are showing how education and law enforcement can work together for the greater good.
