Voltas Ahmedabad COCO Store Opens at Shyamal Cross Road
Voltas Opens First Company-Owned Store in Ahmedabad as Demand for Home Appliances Grows
Voltas Limited, a Tata Group company and one of India’s largest air-conditioning manufacturers, has opened its first Company-Owned and Company-Operated (COCO) retail store in Ahmedabad. The new outlet marks a significant step in the company’s retail expansion plans and reflects the growing demand for cooling products and home appliances in Gujarat.
Located at Showroom No. GF-03, Iconic Shyamal, Shyamal Cross Road in Satellite, the store offers a wide range of products from both the Voltas and Voltas Beko brands. Customers can purchase air conditioners, air coolers, commercial refrigerators, water dispensers, water coolers, refrigerators, washing machines, microwaves and dishwashers from a single location.
The store was inaugurated by Jayant Balan, Head of Room Air Conditioner (RAC) Business at Voltas Limited; Jogesh Jaitly, Head of Sales; and Nirpesh Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer of Voltas Beko.
The opening comes at a time when India’s cooling and home appliance market continues to expand. Rising temperatures, growing urbanisation, increasing household incomes and greater awareness of energy-efficient products have contributed to stronger demand for air conditioners and other appliances across the country.
Voltas has remained a major player in the Indian air-conditioning industry for decades. Founded in 1954 through a partnership between Tata Sons and Volkart Brothers, the Mumbai-headquartered company has built a large presence in cooling solutions, engineering services and consumer appliances. Industry reports place Voltas among the leading brands in India’s room air-conditioner market. The company recently reported crossing one million air-conditioner sales within the first three months of the 2026-27 financial year, the fastest such milestone in its history.
The Ahmedabad outlet follows a broader strategy by the company to strengthen its direct retail presence. Over the past few years, Voltas has launched exclusive stores and experience centres in several cities across India as competition in the consumer durables sector has intensified. The company has also expanded its manufacturing operations under the Government of India’s Make in India initiative, including investments in new production facilities for air conditioners and home appliances.
Unlike franchise-operated outlets, the COCO model allows the company to own and manage the store directly. Industry experts say this approach gives brands greater control over customer service, product displays, pricing communication and after-sales support. It also enables companies to collect direct feedback from customers and better understand changing buying preferences.
Ahmedabad has emerged as an important market for consumer electronics and home appliances. The city has witnessed rapid residential and commercial development over the past decade, creating demand for cooling solutions, particularly during Gujarat’s long and intense summer season. Retail analysts note that consumers are increasingly looking for energy-efficient products as electricity costs rise and environmental concerns become more prominent.
Voltas Managing Director Mukundan Menon said Ahmedabad remains an important market because of rising consumer aspirations and increasing demand for premium and smart home appliances.
“Ahmedabad continues to be an important market for us, driven by growing consumer aspirations and increasing demand for premium and smart home appliances, supported by manufacturing prowess. The opening of our first Company-Owned & Company-Operated store in the city reflects our focus on strengthening direct consumer engagement and enhancing brand experience. Through this store, we aim to offer customers the convenience of experiencing our wide portfolio under one roof, along with trusted after-sales service.”
The company believes Gujarat offers strong growth opportunities due to its large consumer base, expanding urban population and established distribution network. The state is also an important manufacturing hub, attracting investments from several consumer durable and electronics companies.
Jayant Balan, Head of RAC Business at Voltas Limited, said the city plays a key role in the company’s future plans.
“Ahmedabad is one of the key growth markets for the cooling and home appliances industry, driven by rising consumer aspirations and increasing demand for energy-efficient technologies. The launch of our first COCO store in the city is an important step in strengthening our direct engagement with consumers while showcasing our latest innovations across product categories.
The COCO format allows us to deliver a superior and consistent brand experience, supported by expert guidance, product demonstrations, and robust after-sales service. As we continue to expand our retail footprint across the country, this store will play a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility, strengthening brand visibility, and bringing consumers closer to the trusted Voltas and Voltas Beko portfolio.”
The Ahmedabad outlet will display more than 200 products, the company’s latest range of air-conditioning products, including smart and energy-efficient models equipped with advanced digital features. Customers will also be able to access finance schemes, promotional offers and product demonstrations.
The launch also reflects broader trends within India’s appliance industry. According to market studies, air-conditioner penetration in India remains relatively low compared with several Asian countries, leaving significant room for future growth. Industry estimates suggest that a large majority of air-conditioner buyers in India are purchasing their first unit, particularly in smaller cities and rapidly growing urban centres. Rising temperatures and recurring heatwave conditions in many parts of the country are expected to support long-term demand for cooling products.
Voltas has also expanded beyond air conditioners through its Voltas Beko joint venture. The partnership entered the home appliances segment to offer products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers and kitchen appliances. Over the years, the company has steadily increased its presence in the competitive white-goods market, where Indian and international brands continue to compete for market share.
Retail experts say company-operated stores are becoming more common as brands seek stronger relationships with consumers. Such outlets allow companies to present their full product range in a controlled environment while providing service support under the same roof.
For Ahmedabad consumers, the new store provides another option in a market where organised retail and branded experience centres are becoming increasingly popular. For Voltas, the opening represents another step in its effort to strengthen its position in one of India’s fastest-growing consumer markets while responding to increasing demand for cooling and home appliance products.
As competition in the sector continues to grow, the success of such retail initiatives is likely to depend on product quality, pricing, customer service and the ability to meet changing consumer expectations. The Ahmedabad launch signals Voltas’ intention to remain an active participant in that evolving market.
