Maalik Movie Review:
A new Bollywood “mass masala” movie is out for you
It has:
- UP-Bihar style of language and accent is used.
- Having an item song with vulgar dance steps.
- An anti-hero “sigma male” character as a hero.
- Unwanted political sequences.
- Basically, it’s a guilty pleasure for men.
The story? Oh, you know the drill! An underdog hero was living peacefully. A bad guy messes with his family. He then becomes a crime boss.
Here’s the main point: We’ve already seen this kind of story on TV shows like Mirzapur. Why are they making us sit for 2 hours and 30 minutes in a theatre for the same thing? It’s like the Gangs of Wasseypur movie template from 15 years ago, still being used today.
This movie made me think of the 2024 movie “Bhaiya Ji” and this year’s “Maalik.” For people who work hard all day, feel stuck under their bosses, this movie is perfect. They can’t feel powerful in real life, but through Rajkummar Rao, they can.
We were getting tired of seeing Rajkummar Rao in the same kinds of movies too. So, he chose to do a type of movie that many people like, action and gangster films.
But even if you change your character a lot, if the story isn’t strong and convincing, how will the movie reach the audience’s hearts?
There’s no doubt Rajkummar Rao did an amazing job as an actor. But when he decided to try new kinds of acting roles, why didn’t he think about the storyline? It just felt like every other gangster movie out there.
You can watch this movie just for Rajkummar Rao. No matter what character he plays, he gives it his 200%. But there’s a Bollywood rule: the hero can be shot at 100 times, but he’ll never get hit. But all of his bullets will hit!
In “Gangs of Wasseypur,” there were many memorable characters, like “Perpendicular.” In this movie, you won’t remember any of the characters.
If you want to feel a bit like a “sigma male” or want a guilty pleasure, you can go see it. For me, the movie was 5 out of 10. It’s rated “A” (for adults), with lots of abusive words. We’ve been watching this same old stuff for 10 or 20 years. It’s boring now!
Final Verdict and Ratings
“Maalik Movie” is just a kind of gangster film which we have been watching since our childhood. I personally did not like the movie because I found nothing new or exciting in it. The same old story with some brutality and abusive language.
