Following a sharp deterioration in his health, former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas was admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) in a hospital in London. Abbas, 74, became seriously unwell after catching the Covid-19 virus in London after traveling from the United Arab Emirates. He was moved to the ICU since his health started to deteriorate.
According to sources, Abbas was admitted to the hospital three days ago due to renal discomfort, but the former star also suffered severe pneumonia, according to the sources. Zaheer Abbas is receiving oxygen and dialysis, and his family has pleaded with his supporters to pray for his recovery.
The former Test skipper is currently a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital’s ICU department in London, according to a report by Cricket Pakistan. According to reports published by Geo News, “He is currently receiving dialysis and the doctors have instructed him to avoid seeing people.”
Abbas, one of the best batters of his time, made his national team debut in 1969 against New Zealand. He scored 5062 runs in 72 Tests as opposed to 2572 runs in 62 ODIs. In 459 First-Class cricket games, he amassed 34,843 runs, including 108 centuries and 158 half-centuries.

After retiring, he served as a match referee for the ICC and officiated one Test and three ODIs. He was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2020 together with Jacques Kallis and Lisa Sthalekar.
