Shreyas Iyer created another original act as he caught Rovman Powell in the second game, following his dancing celebration in the first ODI.
In the second ODI of the series against the West Indies on Sunday, Team India’s bowlers once again performed unevenly. After electing to bat first at Port of Spain, the hosts produced 311/6, with opener Shai Hope striking a superb century (115). Nicholas Pooran, the captain of the West Indies, too put up a strong effort, scoring 74 runs off 77 deliveries while smashing six sixes and a four along the way.
Except for Hope and Pooran, the other batters were unable to capitalise on reasonably great openings in their innings. After Pooran was dismissed, Rovman Powell was put in to bat. He got off to a fast start, but Shreyas Iyer made a spectacular catch to send him back to the pavilion.
Powell grabbed a full delivery from Thakur and sent it over the top. Iyer, however, showed an amazing ability to reach the length and pull the delivery from a deep cover region. He then celebrated in an original way.
It’s interesting to note that when Iyer had caught Shamarh Brooks at the fine leg boundary in the first ODI, he danced in celebration. The Indian hitter also gave an explanation for his celebration in a video posted to the BCCI’s official Twitter account.
While Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal each grabbed one wicket in the innings, Thakur was the standout bowler earlier in the match with three wickets. Avesh Khan, who was playing in his first game, had a poor performance, giving up 54 runs in just six overs.
