Synopsis
The ‘Khichdi’ gang, known for their crazy silly ways of behaving is back on the big screen after 13 years. But here’s the big question: Why did they decide to make a sequel?
Back in 2010, it might have made sense to turn a popular TV show into a movie during breaks, but now, with endless reruns keeping characters like Hansa Ben always in front of fans, it seems a bit strange.
The director, Aatish Kapadia, might have thought the gang’s unique brand of senselessness would be enough. This time, the gang goes to a made-up place called Paanthukistan, ruled by a mean king who looks a lot like Praful. The king has two sidekicks named Ek Sau Bees Navratan and Gulkunda (don’t ask why). In Paanthukistan, they don’t have running water, so there are lots of makeshift toilets for rent. And the women wear red masks with holes in their eyes. It looks all very weird but entertaining.
Kirti Kulhari is back as Parminder as usual, a Punjabi girl who basically just dances in a couple of songs. nothing more than that for her in this movie this time. Meanwhile, Hansa Ben, played by Supriya Pathak, is still making her funny language mistakes in English. The jokes will not make you cringe, like talking about ‘off-season aloo parathe’ and ‘oxygen chalu kara de.’
There’s a scientist who made a robot with blue eyes that can shoot bullets (don’t even try to understand). Pratik Gandhi shows up as a helicopter pilot but disappears after the first ten minutes and doesn’t come back. Farah Khan also makes a quick appearance.
There are only 2 songs in the movie which is situational and the location of one of the song is Switzerland, which you will love it. Please don’t even try to understand the meaning of the song “Vanda Raka Vanda Raka Vanda Raka Guiee”
Most of the scenes of the film is shot in White Rann of Kutch, which is beautiful.
There are no action scenes, nudity, brutality or abusive language hence you can go and watch the movie with your family.
The direction of the film is okay, but I did not like the screenplay at all. There are a few scenes where I was surprised where it came from and why?
In short, ‘Khichdi 2’ seems to love being weird, and the story might confuse you. However, you will enjoy the comedy punches.
