Since the declaration of Champions Trophy 2025, the controveries are coming out one after the other. The  recent controverys of BCCI refusing to have printed “Pakistan” on Team India’s kits and jerseys have gained momentum. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made headlines for its refusal to print “Pakistan” on Team India’s jerseys for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

This decision comes amid a backdrop of political tensions and security concerns surrounding cricket relations between these two nations. As per reports, the BCCI has decided against including Pakistan’s name on its kits, even though Pakistan is officially hosting the tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has responded firmly to this move, reminding the BCCI that it is a requirement for all teams to display the host nation’s name on their jerseys. An ICC official stated, “It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” highlighting that failure to do so could result in strict action against the Indian team.

The BCCI’s rationale for this decision stems from its arrangement to play all its matches in Dubai due to security concerns in Pakistan. They argue that since they will not be playing in Pakistan, there is no need to feature its name on their jerseys ans BCCI is correct in this regard.

Since India do not have good relation with Pakistan, and hence they are not visiting to Pakistan and playing all their matches at Dubai. BCCI is making sure that whatever they can do they will do to defame Pakistan and they are absolutely right.

Pakistan should focus on their preparation of the Champions Trophy rather than making a big issue on such small things.  They should rather focus on making their stadiums ready for the Champions Trophy 2025. PCB is missing the deadlines one ater the other of making the stadiums ready.

ICC also, must focus on that rather than pointing BCCI.

A source from within the BCCI mentioned, “It’s a custom, not mandatory. Also, we are playing in Dubai. If you look at previous tournaments, you will see that host names were not always included when teams played outside their home countries.

“However, this stance has not gone unnoticed by the PCB, which has expressed its displeasure over what it perceives as an attempt by the BCCI to inject politics into cricket.

A PCB official stated, “The BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game.” They have called upon the ICC to intervene and uphold fairness in this situation. The relationship between the BCCI and PCB has been fraught with tension over recent months.

The Indian board’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan for this prestigious tournament had already raised eyebrows and led to a compromise where matches would be held in a hybrid model across both countries. Despite these arrangements, ongoing disputes have continued to plague discussions.

Another point of contention is whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will attend a pre-tournament event in Pakistan involving captains from all participating teams. As of now, it remains uncertain if Sharma will be permitted by the BCCI to cross borders for this event.

As cricket fans await further developments, it is clear that this controversy surrounding jersey regulations reflects broader issues between India and Pakistan in sports and beyond. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to commence soon, with matches scheduled from February 19 through March 9 across various venues including Dubai and several cities in Pakistan.
