Nepal Violence Fuels Fear, Modi Appeals For Calm And Peace. Young Lives Lost In Nepal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned from his official visit to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and immediately chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in New Delhi. The meeting was called to discuss the troubling developments in Nepal, where violent protests have led to heavy loss of life and growing instability.

Senior ministers, including Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S. Jaishankar, joined the Prime Minister at the meeting. Their focus was on India’s security concerns and the fast-changing situation in Nepal.

Violence in Nepal Leaves Youth Dead

The Prime Minister expressed deep anguish over the violence in Nepal, which has claimed the lives of many young individuals. Recent protests in Nepal were triggered by the government’s sudden decision to ban social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, X, and YouTube. The ban sparked outrage among young people, many of whom came out on the streets demanding their rights and protesting against corruption and nepotism.

The protests soon turned violent, and security forces responded with live fire, rubber bullets, tear gas, and water cannons. At least 19 people, mostly young protesters, lost their lives in the clashes. Curfews were imposed in several cities as the government tried to control the unrest. The situation has left the entire region tense, with fears that the violence could escalate further if not resolved quickly.

India’s Concerns About Stability

In the CCS meeting, Modi stressed that the stability, peace, and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to India. The two nations share deep cultural, economic, and social ties, and unrest in Nepal can have a direct impact on India as well. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also expressed sorrow over the loss of young lives and advised Indian citizens living in Nepal to remain cautious.

The Prime Minister’s remarks carried both concern and hope. He said the violence in Nepal was “heart-rending” and that he was anguished at the loss of so many young lives. He appealed to all citizens of Nepal to uphold peace and unity during this difficult time.

A Heartfelt Appeal

In posts on X, the Prime Minister repeated his message of solidarity and peace. “On my return from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security discussed the developments in Nepal. The violence in Nepal is heart-rending. I am anguished that many young people have lost their lives. The stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to us. I humbly appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to support peace.”

The words underline India’s close watch on the situation and its cautious approach. With protests still fresh and tensions running high, the appeal from the Indian leadership adds weight to calls for calm and dialogue.

Looking Ahead

The unrest in Nepal has highlighted the deep frustration of its younger generation, who are demanding accountability and transparency in governance. At the same time, the response of the state has raised concerns about human rights and democratic freedoms. For India, which shares not only an open border but also close cultural bonds with Nepal, stability in the Himalayan nation is a top priority.

Prime Minister Modi’s quick action to convene a high-level security meeting and his open appeal for peace show how seriously India views the crisis. The coming days will be critical in deciding whether Nepal can restore calm and whether its leaders can engage with their citizens to find lasting solutions.
