“HAQ Movie stars two strong actors, Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi. The movie is about the topic of triple talaq and is based on a real-life story, the case of Shah Bano Begum from 1980. That case became famous across the country. What was the case, and how is the movie? Let’s talk about it.
In the past, in the Muslim community, divorce used to happen easily by saying “talaq, talaq, talaq” three times. This was wrong from a logical point of view. Even today, this still happens sometimes, and there isn’t much law about it. Once you say it, everything ends. But in 1985, a case started called the Shah Bano case. After it, a proper law was passed, and the rest is history.
This movie faces the truth on this topic with terrific acting by both leading actors. Emraan proves his famous Bollywood dialogue about standing out, like all of Bollywood is on one side, and Emraan Hashmi is on the other. I still believe, regardless of religion, this is a very important aspect of society.
The Indian government has already made many laws on this topic, but in 1980, the situation was different. So this case was very controversial then. The Supreme Court gave a special judgment to provide money for divorced Muslim women.
The movie is based on the book “Bano Bharat Ki Beti” written by Jigna Vora. Since this is not a fictional story, understanding its reality is very important. The movie shows this reality honestly with great performances. I became a fan of Yami Gautam. The intensity she brings is beyond reality.
In 1980, the situation for women was tough. A woman had to depend on her husband, and there was a lot of pressure in divorce matters. At that time, religion was the focus instead of laws.
There is no unnecessary drama and no jokes about caste or religion. The movie properly shows that justice and law are equal for everyone, regardless of gender or religion. The makers handled this sensitive topic with maturity.
The film’s music is really nice and matches the topic well. Only the length of the film felt a little long to me. It could be cut by 10-15 minutes, but maybe the topic needed more time. The narration and dialogues are proper and leave a deep message by the end, especially with Yami Gautam’s acting and her courtroom monologue.
In the courtroom, there was decorum and no nonsense. For me, this is a must-watch film. There is no vulgarity, but because of the topic, it’s for a mature audience. I give this movie four out of five stars. Go watch it with your friends and family, especially elders.
Final Verdict:
HAQ movie may not offer masala, but it packages emotions and heartbreak, and it will definitely hook you throughout. If you are a fan of courtroom drama and true stories, HAQ movie is definitely for you.
