Mundra Port Powering India’s Global Maritime Rise

Newzdaddy Business Updates

Mundra ranked first among India’s major private-sector ports
Ranked 4th globally in port berth productivity
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) Mundra Port secures 20th position worldwide in the prestigious DNV–Menon Economics Leading Container Ports (LCP) report
Performance sets new global benchmarks among 160 ports assessed worldwide

Mundra Port, a cornerstone of India’s international trade, has firmly established itself as a global maritime powerhouse. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) Mundra Port has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 20th position globally in the prestigious DNV–Meena Economics Leading Container Ports (LCP) report. It also stands first among major private-sector ports in India, underscoring its outstanding performance.

This ranking holds great value for India, as the DNV–Menon study is widely respected for measuring real performance based on global trade volume, port management and efficiency. Mundra’s inclusion in the top 20 places India in the league of world-class port economies like Singapore, Rotterdam and Shanghai, which have long led global shipping.

In the joint DNV–Menon Economics assessment of 160 ports worldwide, Mundra Port has set new efficiency benchmarks. Notably, it ranks 4th globally in berth productivity, a key metric for shipping lines that reflects superior efficiency, reliability, and fast vessel turnaround times. Extensive rail, road, and coastal connectivity further cements Mundra’s position as India’s premier trade gateway.

Berth productivity also plays a direct role in lowering the time ships spend at ports, which saves money for shipping companies. This makes Mundra a preferred destination for many international carriers exporting manufactured goods, machinery, electronics and petroleum products. The strong freight rail network linking Mundra to the Northern and Western industrial belts helps reduce logistics costs and boosts export speed.

Mundra Port continues to raise the bar in operational efficiency, connectivity, and environmental stewardship. The report places it 9th globally for growth rate, signalling strong future expansion and rising trade volumes. Sustainability remains at the heart of its operations, with a clear commitment to green practices, climate goals, and biodiversity conservation along the Gujarat coast.

The port has adopted cleaner energy systems, including solar and wind power sources, aimed at reducing emissions. It is also increasing the use of electric cargo equipment to cut down fuel consumption. Mangrove plantations spread across the coastal area of Mundra are helping preserve ecological balance, offering shelter to marine life.

This global recognition underscores APSEZ Mundra Port’s technology-driven operations, sustainability focus, and customer-centric approach. Beyond being a leader in cargo handling, Mundra is a catalyst for India’s growing prominence on the global maritime map.

Automation, digital tracking, smart surveillance and AI-supported systems have helped reduce human error and increase container movement speed. Customer logistics services are improving, making importers and exporters more confident in port reliability. Mundra today is not just a transport hub, but a backbone for India’s supply-chain growth.

Earlier, Mundra Port was honoured with the “Port of the Year” award at India Maritime Week, organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The Mundra model is now seen as an inspiring blueprint for other Indian ports striving to align with the nation’s net-zero ambitions by 2070.

The Indian government is expanding coastal infrastructure under Sagarmala and PM GatiShakti to strengthen gateways for future trade. As the world looks for faster and cleaner shipping routes, Mundra stands as India’s strongest example of how technology, growth and sustainability can move together.
With global trade shifting towards India, Mundra’s rise reflects a growing confidence in Indian logistics growth and long-term maritime strategy.
