DPS Bopal holds annual day celebrations, and students showcase their creativity

Delhi Public School (DPS) Bopal concluded its two-day annual cultural celebrations, “Oorukkali 2025”, at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium. The event reflected on three decades of the school’s journey, presented through performances that traced change across generations under the theme “Change: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow – (‘परिवर्तन – कल, आज और कल’)”.

The celebrations marked an important moment for DPS Bopal, which has grown steadily over the past 30 years as part of the larger DPS network known across India for its focus on academic strength and all-round development. Annual days at DPS schools are often designed not just as performances, but as learning experiences where students explore history, values and social change through art. “Oorukkali 2025” followed this tradition by using music, dance and theatre to tell stories that connect the past, present and future.

The second day of the celebrations took place in the presence of Minister of State for Primary, Secondary and Adult Education Rivaba Jadeja, noted actor Devarshi Shah, DPS Bopal’s Director Vandna Joshi and Principal Sabina Sawhney, along with parents and well-wishers. The presence of leaders from education, culture and the arts added significance to the occasion and offered students a chance to perform before role models from different walks of life.

Around 500 students from different grades took part in the presentations, which combined music, dance and theatre to depict the school’s evolution from its early years to the present, while also looking ahead to the future. Such large-scale student participation reflects the school’s emphasis on inclusivity, where children of different ages are encouraged to work together and learn teamwork, confidence and discipline through performance.

The evening opened with a musical presentation by the school choir that blended singer Katy Perry’s anthem “Roar” with the tranquil melodies of the classical Raag Yaman, followed by a Gandhari dance sequence. This unique fusion of Western pop and Indian classical music highlighted how modern education often blends global influences with traditional roots. Raag Yaman, commonly associated with calmness and devotion, provided a strong contrast to the powerful message of self-belief in “Roar”, setting the tone for the evening.

Scholarships and awards were presented to students for achievements across academic, sporting and creative fields. Recognising students in multiple areas reinforces the idea that success is not limited to marks alone. Schools increasingly acknowledge excellence in sports, arts and innovation, helping students feel valued for their unique talents.

Presenting the annual report, Principal Sabina Sawhney highlighted milestones achieved by students over the past year and reflected on the institution’s 30-year journey. Annual reports at such events often serve as a reminder of consistent effort by students, teachers and parents, while also outlining the school’s vision for the years ahead.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Rivaba Jadeja underlined the role of education in shaping balanced individuals and strengthening society, encouraging students to value discipline, perseverance and purpose. Her message echoed the broader aim of school education, which goes beyond textbooks to build responsible citizens. Actor Devarshi Shah spoke about the importance of pursuing one’s interests with confidence and integrity, drawing from his own experiences in the creative field to inspire students.

The annual day celebrations began on Monday with “Sitara-e-Sanskriti: Stars of Eternal Values”, presented by around 450 students of grades 3 to 5. The first day featured performances focused on timeless human values conveyed through mythology, history and contemporary narratives. Such themes help young children understand complex ideas like honesty and courage in a simple and engaging way.

Actor and singer RJ Dhvanit Thaker was the special guest on the first day, adding excitement for students and parents alike. Guest appearances by popular cultural figures often motivate children and make school events memorable.

The young performers showcased themes such as wisdom, justice, courage, truthfulness, kindness and compassion through a series of dance sequences, skits and musical presentations. The performances included portrayals inspired by figures such as King Vikramaditya, Tenali Rama, Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. These personalities are widely taught in Indian schools for their leadership, intelligence and moral strength, making them relatable role models for students.

The Kindness Fashion Show added a contemporary flair, while the energetic All-Value Dance and grand finale reinforced the message that values are meant to be lived, not merely taught. By combining traditional stories with modern formats, the performances connected strongly with today’s generation.

Parents filled the auditorium across both days, applauding the young performers as the annual celebrations brought together culture, learning and values. The event stood as a reflection of DPS Bopal’s commitment to nurturing confident, thoughtful and creative students, while honouring its three-decade journey in education.
