GSFC University Signs Six Industry and Research Partnerships at Vibrant Gujarat Conference in Vadodara

GSFC University has entered into six new partnerships with companies, research institutions and a state government agency during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC) 2026 held in Vadodara, adding to a growing trend of closer links between higher education and industry in Gujarat.

The agreements were signed with Farmson Basic Drugs Pvt. Ltd. of Nandesari in Vadodara, Indus Fire Safety of Vadodara, Mumbai-based Alkem Laboratories Ltd., Vasu Research Centre in Vadodara, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) under the Government of Gujarat, and the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Institute of Occupational Health Research (ICMR-NIOHR) in Ahmedabad.

The partnerships were announced during the Central Gujarat edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference, which took place on 29 and 30 June at the GSFC University campus in Fertiliser Nagar, Vadodara. The conference formed part of the Gujarat government’s regional investment programme that runs between editions of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit and focuses on industry growth in different parts of the state. Delegates from several countries, industrial groups, universities and government departments attended the event.

Universities across India have been increasing their partnerships with companies and research bodies as employers seek graduates with practical skills and workplace experience. The University Grants Commission and the National Education Policy 2020 have both encouraged institutions to give students more exposure to internships, multidisciplinary learning and industry projects.

Officials said the six agreements signed by GSFC University are expected to support student internships, applied research work, faculty interaction with industry experts and opportunities for collaborative projects.

The agreement with Farmson Basic Drugs Pvt. Ltd., one of the pharmaceutical manufacturers based in the Vadodara industrial belt, is expected to create opportunities for students studying pharmaceutical sciences and related subjects. Vadodara and nearby districts form one of India’s important pharmaceutical manufacturing clusters, with companies in the region supplying products to both domestic and overseas markets.

The partnership with Alkem Laboratories Ltd., one of India’s major pharmaceutical companies, could give students exposure to manufacturing practices, quality systems and research activities used by large drug makers. India’s pharmaceutical sector is among the largest producers of generic medicines in the world and remains one of Gujarat’s strongest industrial sectors.

Another agreement was signed with Indus Fire Safety, a company involved in fire protection and emergency response services. The collaboration is expected to support students enrolled in safety and fire engineering programmes. GSFC University already runs courses in Fire and Environment, Health and Safety studies and has previously worked with fire safety organisations during awareness programmes and demonstrations on campus.

The understanding reached with Vasu Research Centre is expected to assist research projects and scientific studies involving students and faculty members. Gujarat has expanded its research ecosystem in recent years through partnerships between universities, laboratories and private companies, particularly in pharmaceuticals, chemicals and biotechnology.

A separate agreement was signed with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, an autonomous body set up by the Government of Gujarat to promote entrepreneurship and support small businesses and start-ups. The organisation runs training programmes, mentoring activities and business development schemes across the state.

Access to CED programmes may help students and researchers move business ideas from classrooms and laboratories into commercial ventures. Gujarat has placed increasing attention on start-up activity during the past decade through incubation centres, innovation missions and state-backed support schemes for young entrepreneurs.

The agreement that may have the widest academic impact involves ICMR-NIOHR, a national institute based in Ahmedabad that studies occupational diseases, industrial health risks and workplace safety issues. The institute conducts research in areas such as mining safety, ship recycling, chemical exposure and the health of industrial workers.

GSFC University said the collaboration would strengthen its B.Tech Fire and EHS programme through expert lectures, workshops and knowledge-sharing activities. Students are expected to gain opportunities to work on dissertations, field studies and internships under the guidance of ICMR-NIOHR scientists.

Occupational health has received greater attention in India as industrial growth has increased the need for safer workplaces and stronger health monitoring systems. Researchers have raised concerns over respiratory diseases, chemical exposure and long-term health risks faced by workers in sectors such as construction, mining and heavy industry.

Access to researchers and laboratory facilities from a national institute could provide students with practical experience that is often difficult to obtain in a classroom environment.

The six agreements also fit into a wider pattern seen at recent Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences, where industry bodies, educational institutions and businesses have used the platform to announce new collaborations and investment plans. Similar conferences held in other regions of Gujarat during the past year resulted in thousands of agreements covering manufacturing, energy, logistics, technology and start-up sectors.

For GSFC University, the latest set of partnerships adds to earlier international and domestic collaborations aimed at expanding student mobility, research work and industry interaction. The university had earlier signed an agreement with Canada’s Humber Polytechnic for joint academic activities and student exchange opportunities.

As competition for skilled workers increases across industries, educational institutions are facing pressure to prepare graduates who can move quickly into professional roles. Partnerships between universities, employers and research organisations are becoming a common route to meet that demand.

The agreements signed in Vadodara suggest that such collaborations are likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping technical education and workforce development in Gujarat during the coming years.
