PMTX 2026 Pune: Machine Tool Expo to Start on September 7

Pune to Host PMTX 2026 and FACTEQ 2026 as Machine Tool Demand Rises

Pune will host two manufacturing exhibitions in September as the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) prepares to bring together machine tool makers, factory equipment suppliers and industrial buyers at the Pune International Exhibition & Convention Centre (PIECC), Moshi.

The fourth edition of the Pune Machine Tool Expo (PMTX) 2026 and the third Factory Equipment Expo (FACTEQ) 2026 will run from 7 to 10 September. IMTMA announced the events at a press conference in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

The exhibitions come at a time when India’s machine tool market is expanding. IMTMA data shows that domestic machine tool production reached about ₹16,478 crore in the financial year 2025-26, the highest level recorded by the association. Production rose about 13% from the previous financial year, while machine tool consumption crossed ₹35,000 crore for the first time. Order bookings stood at about ₹16,176 crore, up around 20%.

The numbers also point to a gap between demand and local supply. Machine tool imports crossed ₹20,000 crore in FY2025-26 and accounted for roughly 60% to 65% of consumption, according to IMTMA. That leaves Indian manufacturers with a large domestic market, while also putting pressure on them to improve their ability to supply advanced equipment locally.

PMTX 2026 is aimed at this part of the manufacturing chain. The exhibition will cover metal-cutting and metal-forming machines, tooling, automation, robotics, measurement equipment and digital manufacturing systems. The official PMTX 2026 programme also lists computer-aided design and manufacturing software, additive manufacturing, Industry 4.0 equipment, sensors, data systems, CNC machines and quality-control equipment among the areas covered by the show.

FACTEQ will run alongside PMTX 2026 and will deal with the wider needs of factories. Its product areas include material handling and storage, air and water systems, safety equipment, factory maintenance, energy-efficient equipment, industrial infrastructure and other systems used when factories are built or upgraded. The event is aimed at factory owners, plant managers, production teams, maintenance staff, procurement professionals and other industrial decision-makers.

The scale of the 2026 exhibition has been revised upward in official event material. IMTMA’s FACTEQ 2026 brochure says the two shows together are planned across 13,000 square metres in two halls, with more than 300 exhibitors expected. The same document records 220 exhibitors and 13,195 visitors at the combined PMTX Expo and FACTEQ event in May 2024.

The PMTX Expo website gives a separate measure of the 2024 event, recording 190 exhibitors, including FACTEQ, 2,507 visitors, 104 trade-delegation companies, ₹37 crore in business orders and ₹123 crore in enquiries. The different figures reflect the way the two exhibitions have reported their combined and individual results.

Pune has long been an important manufacturing centre in western India. Government data identifies automobile manufacturing, biotechnology, information technology, textiles, food processing and foundries among the district’s leading sectors. Maharashtra’s manufacturing base also has a large presence in automotive, metals, food processing and capital goods.

The Pune area has a particularly strong link with automobile and engineering production. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency describes a Pune manufacturing cluster with around 70 small and medium-sized forging and heat-treatment units serving automobile and engineering businesses. Such companies depend on machining, forming, material handling and quality-control equipment, making the city a natural location for a machine tool exhibition.

The wider Indian machine tool sector has also recorded steady growth in recent years. IMTMA’s 2024-25 annual report estimated production at ₹14,566 crore, up 7% from the previous year, while consumption was estimated at ₹31,781 crore, an increase of 17%. The report also noted that India ranked ninth in global machine tool production and fourth in consumption in calendar year 2024, based on the World Machine Tool Survey by Gardner Intelligence.

Automation is becoming a larger part of this market. The Ministry of Heavy Industries lists Pune among the important locations for India’s tool-room sector. Government programmes have also supported work linked to Industry 4.0, including a common engineering facility centre in Pune focused on Industry 4.0 and a smart manufacturing facility at the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute in Bengaluru.

For companies in Gujarat and other parts of western India, the Pune exhibition could provide a nearby meeting point with machine manufacturers and suppliers. IMTMA expects participation from original equipment manufacturers, component makers, small and medium-sized enterprises and factory managers looking at automation, better quality control and lower production costs.

Jibak Dasgupta, Director General & CEO of IMTMA, said: “Manufacturers today want to see technology perform, providing end-to-end solutions, not just machines. Live machine demonstrations, service propositions, and direct engagement with technology providers will enable faster and more informed investment decisions.”

Addressing the media, Mr Maulik Patel, the Executive Director of Sahajanand Laser Technology Limited (SLTL), said that “Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) was started in 1946; it was done pre-independence. I have been associated with multiple associations, but Indian Machine Tool is one of the most active associations taking care of the metal forming and metal cutting industry to global heights. Membership is mainly for Indian manufacturers, as it is the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association, focusing strictly on metal cutting and metal forming equipment. Overall, it has around 550 members.

These are the major cities and states where metal cutting and metal forming industries are located; the majority of these 500-odd industries are in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mihir Baxi from Jyoti CNC Automation Limited said, “The production of machine tools globally is about 86.11 billion dollars with a growth of 3%. But in India, the production is 1.8 billion, which is growing at 4%.

Indian machine tool builders have a lot of room to grow here because today we are importing almost 65% of our demand from outside India. This is the main target for the Indian machine tool industry, where IMTMA is always trying to educate the machine tool builders in India to grow their production, increase their R&D, and introduce more new technologies.

If you look at the top 15 global machine tool consuming countries:

  • Number 1: China
  • Number 2: USA
  • Number 3: Germany
  • Number 4: India (moved up from number 7)

We are very sure that we will cross Germany within the next 3 to 4 years. The target date IMTMA has announced is 2030.

The point is particularly relevant for smaller manufacturers, where buying a machine can involve a large capital outlay. Seeing equipment operate in real production conditions can give buyers a clearer idea of its capacity, accuracy, maintenance needs and possible use in their own factories.

PMTX 2026 is expected to draw visitors from automotive and auto components, aerospace, defence, general and heavy engineering, capital goods, electronics, railways and other manufacturing sectors. FACTEQ is expected to bring in factory and plant managers looking at equipment needed to build, maintain or upgrade production sites.

For registered industry professionals, entry to the exhibitions will be free. Visitor timings are listed as 10 am to 6 pm, while exhibitor timings will run from 9 am to 7 pm. The exhibitions will be held at PIECC, Moshi, Pune, from 7 to 10 September 2026.

The September shows therefore arrive at a useful time for Indian manufacturing. Demand for machine tools is rising, imports remain high, and factories are spending more on automation and production equipment. What buyers see on the exhibition floor could help shape some of the equipment purchases made by manufacturers in western India over the coming year.
