Rajkot’s Fieldmarshal Launches TREM V Engines For Tractors

Fieldmarshal’s TREM V Engines Bring New Emission Standards To Compact Tractors.

The Gujarat-based manufacturer has introduced 15 HP and 18 HP engines with ARAI approval, while preparing to expand its tractor range and enter new equipment markets.

Rajkot-based Fieldmarshal P.M. Diesels Pvt. Ltd. has introduced 15 HP and 18 HP single-cylinder diesel engines that meet India’s TREM V emission standards. The company describes them as India’s first ARAI-approved engines in these power categories to meet the new requirements.

The launch comes as Indian manufacturers prepare for stricter emission rules for agricultural machinery. It also marks a new stage in the company’s manufacturing history, which began in 1963 with an annual output of just 80 diesel engines.

The new engines use an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system developed in India. This technology sends some exhaust gas back into the engine to help control harmful emissions. Fieldmarshal says the engines are designed for compact tractors and farm equipment that operate for long hours and face demanding working conditions.

The engines have compact designs, cooling systems and parts intended to make regular maintenance easier. The company has also filed several national patents linked to its TREM V engine technology.

New rules bring changes for farm equipment makers

TREM V standards set limits on exhaust emissions from agricultural tractors and other machinery. The Indian government has introduced these rules in stages, with the latest requirements for engines in the 8 kW to 19 kW category taking effect on 1 October 2026.

This category covers the power range of Fieldmarshal’s newly launched engines. The standards require manufacturers to meet prescribed limits for pollutants such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. Compliance is checked through approved engine testing procedures.

The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), based in Pune, is one of the country’s recognised vehicle testing and certification organisations. Its approval plays an important part in confirming whether engines meet the required technical standards.

Fieldmarshal’s Director, Rishi Patel, said the development followed years of engineering work.

“The development of our TREM V engine platform represents an important milestone in Fieldmarshal’s engineering journey. For more than six decades, our focus has been on developing dependable products suited to real operating conditions. The launch of our ARAI TREM V-compliant 15 HP and 18 HP single-cylinder engines, together with our multiple national patent filings around the technology, demonstrates the growing capabilities of indigenous Indian engineering.”

The company has linked the new engines to the wider Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat programmes, which encourage domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported technology.

Shridev tractors target a specialised market

Fieldmarshal’s plans also include expanding its Shridev tractor business. The company currently sells 12 HP, 15 HP and 18 HP tractors, serving customers who need smaller machines for specific farming tasks.

Tractors below 20 HP account for around 3% of India’s total tractor market, according to figures shared by the company. Annual sales in this category are estimated at 40,000 to 45,000 units.

Fieldmarshal wants to capture 10% to 15% of this market over the next three years. This is a company target, and its progress will depend on customer demand, pricing, distribution and competition.

The company plans to introduce tractors of up to 30 HP in the near term. Its longer-term research and development plans include models reaching 100 HP, with India and overseas markets in view.

Rishi Patel said: “Our ambition extends well beyond the 15 HP and 18 HP categories. We are building a wider technology and product roadmap across engines, tractors and agricultural mechanisation while simultaneously expanding into water solutions, clean energy and infrastructure-oriented equipment. Our objective is to combine Fieldmarshal’s engineering heritage with new technologies and products capable of serving the next generation of customers in India and globally”.

Six decades of manufacturing in Gujarat

Fieldmarshal began operations in 1963 as M/s Patel Manufacturers. Its early production capacity stood at 80 diesel engines a year. The company now reports an annual engine manufacturing capacity of more than 160,000 units.

Its manufacturing activities include a joint production arrangement with Mahindra & Mahindra at its Shapar facility. The company also supplies products to established manufacturers such as Sonalika, ACE and KAMCO.

Its dedicated Shridev tractor plant can produce up to 100 tractors a day. This capacity gives the company room to increase output if demand grows.

Fieldmarshal says its products are sold in more than 60 countries. Its export plans include developing engines that meet Euro V requirements, along with tractors reaching higher power categories.

New business areas beyond farm machinery

The company’s future plans extend into several other industries. These include garden tools, agricultural implements, water pumps, clean energy, energy storage, electric vehicles and equipment for cleaning and infrastructure work.

Its Fieldmarshal Voltuel business is intended to serve clean energy and energy storage markets. The company is also preparing a dedicated cleaning equipment division for industrial, commercial, municipal and infrastructure customers.

The proposed range includes sweeping and scrubbing machines in compact, medium-duty and truck-mounted versions. Petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid models are planned to meet different operating needs.

Such expansion will bring new demands in manufacturing, servicing, distribution and product development. Fieldmarshal will have to establish its presence in markets where it may face competitors with established products and customer networks.

The introduction of the TREM V engines gives the Rajkot manufacturer a new product range at a time when emission requirements are changing. Its next steps will depend on how well it can turn its engineering work into sales, expand its tractor business and build customers for its newer equipment lines.
