Green Energy Centre Opens at Kachchh University in Bhuj

Bhuj Green Energy Centre to Train 10,000 Students a Year as Kutch Jobs Rise

A new Centre of Excellence for Green Energy at Kachchh University in Bhuj will train more than 10,000 students each year in technologies linked to solar power, wind energy, battery storage and industrial automation.

The centre has been set up by Adani Skills & Education (ASE), the skilling arm of the Adani Group, in partnership with Kachchh University. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat inaugurated the facility at the university campus on October 4.

The centre comes at a time when Kutch is seeing a sharp rise in renewable energy construction and related employment. Adani Group said its green energy activities in the district have generated more than 21,000 direct and indirect jobs during the past two years. The figure is a company claim and covers jobs linked to its activities in the district.

For students in Kutch, the new facility could provide training in areas that are becoming more important as large power projects expand. Courses will cover Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies, Wind Energy Systems, Hybrid Systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Digital and Industrial Automation.

The centre will also include training in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, or SCADA, which is used to monitor and control industrial equipment. Students will be introduced to Internet of Things (IoT) based energy data systems, smart-grid technologies and microgrids.

The training model will combine classroom teaching with simulation and practical work. Students will move through stages covering learning, practice, practical exposure, certification and career preparation. The centre is also expected to support research work and entrepreneurship related to green energy.

For Kutch, the timing is closely linked to the scale of renewable energy construction around Khavda. Adani Green Energy is developing a 30 GW renewable energy project across 538 square kilometres in the region. The project covers an area roughly five times the size of Paris.

The Khavda project has already created demand for workers in solar power, construction, electrical systems, operations, maintenance, storage and digital control systems. In June 2026, India Post opened a new delivery post office at the renewable energy park after the number of people working and living in the area increased. The new facility was given the PIN code 370246.

The need for trained workers extends beyond Kutch. India is working towards 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030. By July 2026, the country had crossed 300 GW of non-fossil fuel installed capacity, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The latest figures show the scale of the change. As of August 31, 2026, India had 168.04 GW of installed solar power and 58.52 GW of wind power. Total renewable energy capacity, including large hydro, stood at 295.55 GW.

Energy storage is becoming another area where trained workers will be needed. Solar and wind power do not produce electricity at the same level throughout the day. Batteries can store electricity when supply is high and provide it when demand rises. The Central Electricity Authority has estimated that India will need 47.24 GW of Battery Energy Storage Systems by 2031-32 under its base-case planning.

Adani Green Energy has also expanded battery storage at Khavda. On October 1, the company said its operational BESS capacity at the site had reached 6.63 GWh, up from 3.55 GWh in June 2026.

The wider employment picture is also changing. The International Renewable Energy Agency estimated that India had about 1.02 million renewable energy jobs in 2023. Its 2025 review estimated around 304,340 solar PV jobs in India in 2024 and about 67,400 jobs in the wind industry.

Against this backdrop, the Bhuj centre is aimed at connecting university education with the technical needs of a fast-growing power industry.

Mr Karan Adani, Director, Adani Group, said, “The Adani Group’s endeavour has always been to work in sectors that will shape the future of India. Green energy is one such sector — critical for both the nation’s progress and our future generations. This global Centre of Excellence will ensure that students are equipped not only for today’s jobs, but also for the emerging new opportunities across India and the world.”

Mr Robin Bhowmik, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Skills & Education, said, “The renewable energy industry is growing quickly, but the specialised workforce needed to support it is not keeping pace. That is the gap we want to address. By working with Kachchh University, we can bring industry requirements into the classroom, give students practical exposure to the technologies they will work with and help them move from education to employment.”

The test for the new centre will be how many students gain recognised skills and move into actual jobs, apprenticeships or businesses. With large renewable energy projects taking shape in Kutch, training closer to home could also give local students a better chance to enter an industry that is expanding around them.
