Ahmedabad’s Sanatan Naad Concert Focuses on Cancer Prevention

Ahmedabad’s ‘Sanatan Naad’ to Bring Devotional Music and Cancer Awareness Together

The Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Airport, District 3055, will organise ‘Sanatan Naad’, a bhajan jamming concert to support cancer awareness and prevention, on 24 October at 7 pm. The event, held in association with GLS University, will take place at LK Green Party Plot near Vaishnavdevi Circle in Ahmedabad.

The concert comes as the club marks 26 years of social service. Organisers say the programme will use devotional music to draw public attention to cancer prevention, early detection and the need for people to seek medical advice when they notice possible warning signs.

The initiative is being organised under the leadership of Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Airport President Rtn. Jinesh Shah and Honorary Secretary Rtn. CA Sammir S. Chaudhary. It follows Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self”, which places service to the community at the centre of its work.

Cancer awareness remains an important public health issue in India, where late diagnosis can make treatment more difficult. The World Health Organisation reported in July 2026 that cancer caused nearly 10 million deaths worldwide in 2024, accounting for almost one in six deaths. It also estimated that about 38 per cent of cancers could be prevented through the reduction of known risks and the use of established prevention measures.

The figures underline why public awareness matters. Although cancer can affect people of different ages and backgrounds, the risks vary according to the type of cancer, family history, lifestyle and exposure to certain harmful substances or infections. Tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, excess body weight, poor diet and physical inactivity are among the known risk factors. Some cancers are linked to infections, including human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis viruses.

Public awareness programmes can help people understand these risks and recognise when they should seek medical care. However, awareness alone cannot prevent every case. Access to medical advice, diagnostic tests and suitable treatment also plays a major role in improving outcomes.

Early detection is particularly important because many cancers respond better to treatment when doctors find them at an early stage. The World Health Organisation distinguishes between early diagnosis, which involves recognising symptoms and arranging prompt medical care, and screening, which tests people who may have no symptoms.

In India, the government’s National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases includes measures for cancer prevention, screening, early diagnosis and referral for treatment. Community-level screening has focused on oral, breast and cervical cancers. Health workers also play a role in explaining warning signs and directing people to medical facilities when further checks are needed.

People should seek medical advice if they notice unusual bleeding, a persistent lump, a wound that does not heal, lasting changes in bowel or bladder habits, or a cough or hoarseness that continues without a clear reason. Such symptoms do not automatically mean a person has cancer, since other conditions can cause similar problems. A qualified medical professional can decide whether tests are needed.

Doctors also advise people to follow screening recommendations suited to their age, health and personal risk. Screening is not the same for every cancer, and unnecessary tests can lead to further procedures and worry. Medical guidance helps people make informed decisions about which checks are suitable for them.

Against this background, ‘Sanatan Naad’ seeks to bring a health message into a cultural setting. Bhajans are devotional songs familiar to many Indian audiences, and a group music event can offer an accessible way to start conversations about a subject that families may find difficult to discuss. The concert’s stated purpose is to connect this musical gathering with public understanding of cancer prevention and early detection.

The announcement does not specify whether the event will include medical consultations, screening facilities, fundraising, or participation by cancer specialists. Details of any such activities have therefore not been confirmed. The stated focus remains cancer awareness and prevention through a community event built around devotional music.

Rotary clubs work through local members and community partnerships on social and public welfare activities. The Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Airport’s association with GLS University brings an educational institution into the programme. The club’s 26-year milestone also provides the setting for the event, although the announcement does not list its earlier projects or provide figures on the number of people served.

For residents attending the concert, the public health message is straightforward: learning about cancer risks and acting on possible symptoms can help people seek care sooner. People should not delay medical advice because they feel well in general or assume that a symptom will disappear on its own. At the same time, no concert or awareness campaign can replace medical diagnosis, screening recommended by a healthcare professional, or treatment.

‘Sanatan Naad’ is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October 2026, at 7 pm at LK Green Party Plot, Vaishnavdevi Circle, Ahmedabad. By placing cancer awareness within a devotional music programme, the Rotary Club of Ahmedabad Airport hopes to encourage wider public attention to a health issue that affects patients, families and communities.
