Ekta Nagar Hosts 200 NCC Cadets Ahead of Unity Day 2026

Unity in Action: 200 NCC Cadets Prepare for Ekta Diwas 2026 at Ekta Nagar

Ekta Nagar in Gujarat is hosting 200 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from all 17 NCC Directorates of India as they prepare for the National Unity Day celebrations on October 31, 2026. The cadets have gathered for a Special National Integration Camp (SNIC), where they are taking part in physical training, drill practice, yoga, leadership sessions and cultural exchanges ahead of the annual event at the Statue of Unity.

The camp brings together young people from different states and regions, allowing them to learn about one another’s languages, customs and traditions. Their main task is to prepare for the Ekta Diwas Parade and cultural programmes scheduled for October 31, when India will mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, also known as National Unity Day.

The preparations in Ekta Nagar carry a direct link to the life and work of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose birth anniversary falls on October 31. Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, played a major role in bringing hundreds of princely states into the Indian Union after independence in 1947. His efforts helped shape the political map of modern India and earned him the title of the Iron Man of India.

National Unity Day has been observed every year on October 31 since 2014. The day honours Patel’s contribution to national integration and encourages citizens to uphold India’s unity and territorial integrity. Government programmes held on the occasion have included ceremonial parades, the Unity Pledge, the Run for Unity and cultural presentations by participants from different parts of the country.

The Statue of Unity, located near Kevadia in Gujarat’s Narmada district, provides the setting for the main celebrations. Standing 182 metres tall, the statue was inaugurated on October 31, 2018. It overlooks the Narmada River and the Sardar Sarovar Dam and has become a major tourist attraction. Ekta Nagar, the town surrounding the site, has also developed into a centre for tourism and national events.

For the 200 NCC cadets attending the current camp, the days leading up to October 31 are being spent on a demanding training schedule. Their mornings begin before sunrise with physical training, drill exercises and yoga. These sessions are intended to improve stamina, posture, coordination and concentration, all of which are needed for ceremonial marching.

Drill practice requires participants to follow commands, maintain their spacing and move in step with their fellow cadets. A large parade depends on each participant carrying out the same movements at the correct time. Even small errors can affect the appearance of an entire marching contingent, making regular practice an essential part of the preparations.

The camp also includes interactive workshops and guest lectures on leadership, ethical decision-making, public speaking and crisis management. Such sessions give cadets opportunities to discuss situations they may face in public service and community life. They also help young participants practise communication and learn how to make decisions under pressure.

The National Cadet Corps is India’s youth organisation for military-style training and character development. It brings together school and college students and introduces them to discipline, teamwork, physical fitness and a sense of civic duty. Participation in an NCC camp can also expose young people to different parts of the country and to experiences beyond their own schools, colleges and communities.

The Special National Integration Camp places particular emphasis on contact between cadets from different regions. Participants are exchanging regional folklore, languages, customs and personal experiences. These conversations allow them to learn directly from people whose daily lives and cultural backgrounds may differ from their own.

The theme of the programme is ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, which promotes understanding and closer ties among India’s states and communities. For the cadets, this involves learning to work with people who may speak another language or follow different customs. Living and training together also requires patience, cooperation and respect for others.

The camp’s main public event will take place on October 31, when the cadets are expected to join the Ekta Diwas Parade and cultural displays at the Statue of Unity. The planned programme includes precision marching, national integration presentations and ceremonial tributes to Sardar Patel. The performances will bring together young participants whose home states and regions represent India’s wide cultural range.

National Unity Day celebrations have included NCC cadets in earlier years, alongside police personnel, central armed police forces and other marching contingents. In 2024, the official parade programme at Ekta Nagar included marching groups from nine states and one Union Territory’s police force, four Central Armed Police Forces, NCC personnel and a marching band. Such events place youth participation alongside the work of security and public service organisations.

The 2026 camp gives the selected cadets a role in the preparations for this year’s observance. Their performance on October 31 will be the public result of the training and practice carried out in the days before the ceremony.

For the young participants, the experience also offers a chance to form friendships beyond state boundaries. Their time together at Ekta Nagar is centred on a simple national question: how can people with different languages, customs and local identities work towards common goals? The answer will be seen in the cadets’ coordinated march and cultural presentations during the National Unity Day celebrations.
