Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup Final by defeating Athletic Bilbao 2-0. Luka Modric’s 38th-minute curling goal and Karim Benzema’s 52nd-minute penalty sealed the deal for Madrid in the final.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team is going through a dominating phase as they have just lost one game in the last 20 matches. Madrid defeated Barcelona, (3-2) while Athletic Bilbao had defeated Atletico Madrid in the semi-final. The match was played at the King Fahad Stadium in Riyadh.
Real Madrid was 2-0 up by the 52nd minute. Things were smooth until Athletic Bilbao was awarded a penalty after Eder Militao of Madrid was penalised with a red card in the 87th minute. To Madrid’s delight, Raul Garcia missed the penalty.

“It’s an impulse, an impulse to keep going,” said Ancelotti to AFP. “We don’t have much time to think because another competition is coming.”
With this, Marcelo won his 23rd Trophy at Real Madrid. “He’s one of the greats, a legend of this club,” said Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Real Madrid faces Elche on January 19 in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League. They are five points clear of the top in the La Liga this year.
