Hon. Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari,
Distinguished members of the government,
Respected doctors and members of the medical fraternity,
Leaders of industry, and my dear friends,
My salutations to Kolkata. My respectful obeisances to the soil of Bengal
It is an honour to stand here today — on a ground that will soon become an institution of health, hope and human dignity for generations to come.
I am grateful to the Hon. Chief Minister for his presence here.
Earlier this morning, I went to Kalighat and prayed to Maa for Shakti, the strength to lead with courage; for Ichhashakti, the will to dream boldly; and for Kriyashakti, the energy to execute fearlessly. And I left with one thought: Great moments of possibility demand great responsibility!
Bengal is living through such a moment. And at the centre of this moment is a leader entrusted with turning those possibilities into progress. Suvendu Adhikari ji!
Hon. Chief Minister, yours is the story of a real Bhoomiputra — a son of the soil – on whom the people of this state have massive expectations for jobs, for infrastructure, for education, for healthcare and for opportunity.
Under your leadership, I have every reason to believe that Bengal will redefine the possibilities ahead of her. And we, at Adani, are committed to contributing to those possibilities.
My dear friends, this is the land that has demonstrated, generation after generation, an extraordinary ability to produce ideas, institutions and individuals that have shaped India.
This is the land of Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Jagadish Chandra Bose – a land whose ideas, courage, science and culture have helped shape the destiny of our nation.
Her history is immense. Her talent is immense. And, today, India is looking East once again, with hope that Bengal will renew its strength as she writes her next great chapter.
We, at Adani, want to help build that chapter alongside the people of Bengal. And today, our commitment begins with the Adani Arogya Mandir.
The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds — with a thousand beds catering to the economically weaker sections of society, eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes.
At the heart of this institution will be a medical college supported by advanced research and care facilities. This will lay the foundation for a highly skilled healthcare workforce for Bengal.
We will invest over Rs 4,000 crore in the hospital, college and research facilities.
And this institution is expected to generate over 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem of the state.
However, building a stronger Bengal must go beyond any one institution. While healthcare can transform individual lives, infrastructure can transform the opportunities available to millions.
And this is where our larger commitment to Bengal begins.
At the Adani Group, infrastructure is at the heart of what we do. No place in India has Bengal’s extraordinary combination of geography, talent, and economic potential. Bengal is the natural maritime and logistics bridge connecting India’s vast industrial heartland and the Northeast with the Bay of Bengal. Bengal is also best positioned to connect to maritime trade routes deep into Southeast Asia and beyond.
This gives Bengal a structural advantage few regions can match and the potential to become not just a gateway but also one of Asia’s greatest integrated industrial and economic platforms.
And when this platform connects and expands, something powerful happens in and around Bengal. Ports strengthen logistics. Logistics attracts industry. Industries drive manufacturing. Manufacturing needs energy. Energy enables digital infrastructure – and digital infrastructure brings in the industries of the future.
And, most importantly, jobs multiply.
It is with this conviction that we expect to invest in Bengal over Rs 1 lakh crore by 2035 – in sectors spanning ports, logistics, power generation, power transmission and distribution, roads, bridges and ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centres.
However, progress cannot be measured only in kilometres of roads, megawatts of power or rupees invested. A society must also care for its people and protect the culture, memories and institutions that give it identity.
And Bengal’s identity is precious. Its ghats. Its architecture. Its art. Its literature. Its festivals. These are not separate from Bengal’s development. They are part of what makes Bengal worth building for.
And therefore, alongside our industrial and healthcare initiatives, we are also committed to supporting the restoration of the historic Writers’ Building, the revitalisation of Kumartuli Ghat and initiatives that showcase the art of Kolkata’s Durga Pujas to the world.
Three decades ago, our port in Mundra in Gujarat became our first karmabhoomi – in the West. This morning, as I prayed to Maa at Kalighat, I asked for her blessings that Bengal becomes our second karmabhoomi – in the East. Because, for me, Bengal is not simply an investment destination. It is a place where I want to build,
to serve and, most importantly, to belong.
जिस माटी ने ‘वंदे मातरम्’ से सोए भारत का स्वाभिमान जगाया,
जिसने विवेकानंद, नेताजी और टागोर का अमर तेज चमकाया,
उसी पावन धरती को अब अपनी ताकत का जलवा फिर दोहराना है,
ज्ञान, कला और क्रांति की शक्ति से भारत का भविष्य सजाना है।
