Advanced Laparoscopy Training Inspires Surgeons in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad Leads with the Advanced Laparoscopy Training Success story

Dr Limbachiya Leads Advanced Laparoscopy Training for Surgeons

A two-day programme bridges high-volume clinical exposure with structured skill development

Ahmedabad, April 24, 2026: Dr Dipak Limbachiya, widely regarded as a pioneer in advanced laparoscopic and gynaec oncology surgery, led a two-day advanced laparoscopic training programme for 15 surgeons from across India. The programme was conducted at Dr Limbachiya’s EVA Endoscopic Institute at EVA Women’s Hospital, Ahmedabad.

Dr Limbachiya has trained over 4,000 national and international doctors in the past decade, establishing himself as one of India’s leading voices in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. In India, laparoscopic surgery has grown fast over the last 15 years. Reports from leading medical journals show that more hospitals now prefer keyhole surgery because it reduces pain, shortens hospital stay, and helps patients recover more quickly. Experts also note that hands-on training plays a key role in improving surgical safety, especially in complex gynaecological cases.

The two-day immersive programme focused on strengthening core and advanced laparoscopic skills, such as laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, and endometriosis with rectum involvement, along with understanding tissue handling, energy devices, haemostasis, and complication management. Studies published in global surgical journals show that procedures like laparoscopic hysterectomy can reduce blood loss by up to 40 percent compared to open surgery. Endometriosis involving the bowel is considered one of the most difficult conditions to treat and requires high precision and strong training.

There were live surgical demonstrations, during which the participants observed Dr Limbachiya perform procedures and explain his step-by-step rationale in real-time. Medical education experts say that live surgery sessions help young surgeons understand decision-making under pressure. Watching real cases, instead of only reading textbooks, allows doctors to learn how to respond to unexpected challenges during surgery. This method is widely used in advanced training centres across Europe and the United States.

Outcome focused discussions formed a central part of the training, with case reviews and Q&A sessions. The participants gained greater confidence in performing laparoscopic procedures independently, demonstrated improved understanding of ergonomics and workflow, and developed clearer strategies for adopting advanced techniques in their own practice settings. Research from surgical education bodies shows that structured feedback and case discussions can improve skill retention by more than 60 percent. Doctors who attend such programmes often report better patient outcomes within months of applying new techniques.

“By the end of the programme, the trainees had acquired practical, transferable skills that can be immediately applied to enhance patient safety and operative success at their respective centres,’’ said Dr Limbachiya. Patient safety remains a major focus in modern surgery. Global health organisations stress that better-trained surgeons can significantly reduce surgical complications, which still affect millions of patients worldwide each year.

About 10 live surgeries were conducted during the programme. The patients who underwent the surgeries had to pay only nominal fees to the hospital. In India, access to affordable surgical care is still a challenge for many families. Programmes that offer subsidised treatment alongside training help both patients and doctors. Patients receive advanced care at lower cost, while surgeons gain valuable real-life experience.

Gynaecological cancers (cervical, ovarian, endometrial) account for a substantial share of women’s cancer burden in India. According to national cancer data, cervical cancer remains one of the most common cancers among Indian women, especially in rural areas. Early diagnosis and proper surgical treatment can greatly improve survival rates. Minimally invasive surgery has shown better recovery outcomes in many cancer cases, with fewer complications and shorter hospital stays.

Minimally invasive techniques, energy devices, advanced stapling, and precision oncology approaches have transformed outcomes; yet, access to live, high-volume exposure remains limited for many young surgeons. Experts often point out that while technology has improved, training gaps still exist, especially outside major cities. Bridging this gap is key to improving overall healthcare quality in the country.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech India’s Gynaecological Oncology Learning and Observation Programme (GALOP) addresses this by offering direct observation of complex procedures in a real operating room environment. Industry-backed training programmes like GALOP have become more common in recent years. They aim to support doctors with updated tools, global best practices, and real-world exposure, helping raise the standard of care across hospitals in India.
