Amit Chavda calls for courage like freedom fighters to face today’s issues

Newz Daddy Gujarat Politics

On Independence Day, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Mr. Amit Chavda hoisted the national flag and gave his best wishes to everyone. Independence Day is celebrated every year on 15 August to remember the freedom fighters who fought for India’s freedom from British rule in 1947. It is a day when people across the country hoist the tricolour flag, sing the national anthem, and remember the sacrifices made for our nation.

The freedom of our country is safe; we must protect the Constitution and democracy. The Constitution is the supreme law of India, created in 1950, which gives rights and duties to all citizens. Democracy ensures that people have the right to choose their leaders through free and fair elections. On this day, Mr. Chavda urged everyone to take a pledge to fight a new freedom struggle, meaning the fight against today’s problems.

Mr. Chavda said we must fight against fear, hunger, corruption, dictatorship, injustice, and discrimination, and give people freedom from vote theft. Corruption and vote manipulation have been major concerns in India, often discussed in political and public forums. Fear and hunger remain big social challenges, and many leaders stress the need for equal rights and fairness for all.

As part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, Mr. Amit Chavda hoisted the flag in the courtyard of Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress office in Gujarat. Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan is the main headquarters for the Congress Party in the state and is used for important events and meetings. He gave greetings to all citizens through the senior leaders, party workers, and others who were present.

Gujarat is the holy land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, two leaders who played a key role in India’s independence. Mahatma Gandhi led the non-violent movement against the British, and Sardar Patel was known as the “Iron Man of India” for uniting over 500 princely states to form the country. Gujarat has always been a land of courage, sacrifice, and leadership.

Mr. Chavda recalled how freedom fighters fought for years, gave up their comforts, and even went to jail to win freedom. Freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Kasturba Gandhi, and many others are remembered for their bravery. Their stories are often taught in schools to inspire children.

When Gandhiji started the Dandi March in 1930 to protest the British salt tax, it was a turning point in the freedom struggle. The march covered 385 km from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi and inspired millions. Mr. Chavda compared that fight to today’s issues like social and economic inequality, malnutrition, unemployment, and corruption, which still affect many Indians.

Today’s fight needs the same courage and commitment as the Dandi March. Gandhiji called only those ready to face hardships like police beatings and jail to join him, and the movement grew from a small group to a nationwide protest. Similarly, social and political movements today often start with a few dedicated people but can grow into big campaigns if people join together.

Mr. Chavda said people in Gujarat are looking to Congress to fight these challenges. He urged Congress workers to go to the people and begin this “second freedom struggle” — a movement to end malnutrition, corruption, unemployment, dictatorship, injustice, and discrimination. He stressed that only those with strong hearts can lead such battles, just like the freedom fighters of the past.

Happy Independence Day, saying that Congress stands for unity among all communities, castes, religions, languages, and regions. This message is based on the party’s principle of secularism, which means treating everyone equally regardless of religion or background.

He also warned that freedom of speech, writing, thinking, and expression is under threat in the country, along with democracy and fair voting. In India, freedom of expression is a constitutional right under Article 19, and political leaders often talk about protecting it. He said vote theft is also a danger, and we must protect the Constitution and democracy so people’s freedom remains safe.

Many leaders attended the event, including former GPCC President Mr. Jagdish Thakor, Congress leaders Mr. Balu Patel, former MP Dr. Ami Yagnik, Vice President Mr. Vijay Dave, Mr. Lakhabhai Bharwad, Mr. Bimal Shah, Mr. Ashok Punjabi, Mr. Pankaj Shah, General Secretary Mr. Raju Brahmbhatt, MLA Mr. Imran Khedawala, Congress Mahila President Ms. Geetaben Patel, former Ahmedabad City President and MLA Mr. Himmatsinh Patel, Ahmedabad City Congress President Ms. Sonal Patel, Ahmedabad District Congress President Mr. Rajesh Gohil, AMC Deputy Leader Mr. Nirav Bakshi, AICC Joint Secretary Mr. Nilesh Patel, Mr. Satish Pandya, Mr. Jagat Shukla, Media Convener Dr. Manish Doshi, Media Co-Convener Mr. Hemang Rawal, Spokesperson Ms. Ratna Vora, Health Committee Chairman Mr. Bhikhu Dave, and many other party workers and locals.

The event was managed by Sevadal leaders Ms. Pragatiben Ahir, Mr. Kiran Prajapati, and Sevadal volunteers. The Congress Sevadal is the volunteer wing of the party, known for helping in both political campaigns and social service.
